I've never seen fescue used for a football field. Only burmuda mixes. I agree bigboy, the field was in decent playing shape, just not green. I manage turf for three high schools and I can show you a beat up field that's in poor condition due to three rainy games and little $$$$ to fix them. We deemed one field unsafe for play at the beginning of the season it was so bad. In Georgia I used to manage a field at a high school that we used to paint green when it went dormant. If we hired someone to professionally keep our field it would probably run somewhere in the neighborhood of about $70k to for the year.

we shouldn't need professional help. aren't we an agricultural school? You would think they would involve the professors and students who are in that field. But hell, they don't use the mass communication nor the marketing dept so i doubt they use anyone on campus

THAT'S A GOOD IDEA TURN IT OVER TO THE AGRICULTURAL DEPT. I'M TELLING YOU THAT THIS FESCUE GRASS WILL WORK. A LOT OF THE SMALLER HIGH SCHOOLS THAT CAN'T AFFORD THE FIELD TURF US IT. WE ATTEND A GAME IN AMARILLO TX JUST AFTER A SNOW STORM AND THE FIELD WAS A BRIGHT GREEN. WE THOUGHT IT WAS FIELD TURF BUT THE COACH INFORMED US THAT IT WAS THIS FESCUE GRASS.>http://www.ehow.com/info_7755924_turfgrass-north-texas.html. HE ALSO STATED THAT THE UP KEEP WAS NOT THAT HIGH. AggieBorn SPEND A WINTER IN THE TEXAS PANHANDLE AND YOU WILL SEE A LOT OF THING'S THAT YOU NEVER SAW BEFORE LIKE ( RAT'S THAT LIVE IN TREES AND SQUIRRELS THAT LIVE IN THE GROUND)... LOL NOW THAT'S A NUT FORE YA...LOL

maybe i'm a little naive, but i always thought our agriculture department was responsible for growing the beautiful grass surface that we have. i think we have an excellent grass surface, that's why i haven't been hard pressed about advocating for field turf. i'd still rather have field turf, but i'm quite happy with our natural grass just as it is.
from the stands, the grass did look a little beat up. but i didn't see any bare spots, just a few areas where the grass was brown. considering what time of year it is, i thought it was still in decent shape, just wasn't green all over. but no signs of mud or anything like that...

by the way, over at meacfanszone, norfolk state folk are saying they're contemplating the installation of "gold" field turf at price stadium. i once "jokingly" advocated getting gold field turf at aggie stadium, but looks like the spartans are seriously considering it...

How about a BLUE field with the GOLD AGGIE DOG in the middle ?? that's too much like boise state. besides, imo, everybody who gets colored field turf is copying after boise state. they were the first to use colored turf other than green and some folk say its been a recruiting advantage. i don't necessarily believe that, but it definitely gives them a signature facility...

I know you guys are just suffering from the "end of season" withdrawals but ...never mind the darn field turf, lets get some players. Before we spend one silver dime on grass or turf, we need to spend it on recruiting and retaining talented football players, hiring a kicking coach and funding more scholarships. If we can get the Ag School to work some "free" magic on the field, that's great but we need things that will help us "win" rather than things that will "look good" on YouTube. Go Aggies

It would surprise some to know that a football field is just as much apart of a recruiting tool as the school it's self. We had a kid that attended Boise state from Amarillo Tx. When we asked him why Boise he said " That Blue Field" I have heard it all. But never about a Field...lol So don't nock the importance of what a football field could have on a recruits.

Its the physical plant and university maintenance has been responsible for the stadium all these years and they have that responsibility but with budget cuts they probably took a big hit. Bringing in the Ag department for a little "experimenting" is a great idea since we will playing a lot more home games next fall.
