Im one of those members of the local black community. I grew up near campus. I didnt attend a&t (Howard). Yet i volunteer at T and i donate money. I also buy season tickets. I attend games with 5 other guys who never went to A&T. this isnt about shutting out the community. This is about shutting out the freeloaders whose only contribution was their presence at a tailgate. Agreed!! I'm an A&T alum who has worked in FAMU Athletics for more than 10 years. It's the same problem that is trying to be remedied in Tallahassee and other places for the same reasons. (And thanks for supporting Aggie Athletics. )

I hear ya oleschool...BUT, the game zone is not an alienation from the local community. If anything, it's solicitation of the local community to come support Aggie Athletics. I'm sorry, to me, coming to the homecoming tailgate to hang out doesn't correlate to being the equivalent of local community support for our athletic teams. The university does NOT have a responsibility to provide a place for folk or the local community to come hang out for free when there's an athletic event taking place. And to your point...I saw the very same Dudley High School band cheering on their big brothers and sisters at halftime on Saturday. So what has changed in that regard?? So, I just think we should be a little more open to change instead of bucking at it. Is your glass half-empty or half-full???

Hilton said a lot of folks would be reluctant change. That's why it's gonna take a few years to catch on. In the mean time we need to continue to put out communication that will clarify the Game Zone concept. Unfortunately there's a ton of misinformation going around which can cause people to stay home. For instance there were still people who thought you had to purchase a Game Zone ticket and a game ticket or that students didn't receive a discount. Rumors like this can affect attendance.

How in ''el does a bunch of freeloading tailgate hang outs equate to SUPPORT for our teams? In my view A&T needs supporters who contribute $$$$ not a ton of free loaders to hang out at the tailgate areas. Those who attend the game and buy tickets help to provide scholarships for athlete's, equipment, supplies, uniforms, coaches salaries etc. that's the kind of support we need. These freeloaders who refuse to purchase a ticket don't support athletics at A&T. Yes the tailgate area was not as crowded this year but I doubt we lost money because of it. The freeloaders don't pay so if they're on the other side of the fence you're not missing $$$ they wold not spend anyway. I say keep on pushing, we have a ton of things to correct keeping freeloaders off the premises is a good decision and will reap rewards if we don't cave in to the pressures of our non contributing supporters and reopen the gates to all the freeloaders.

I'M MORE OFFENDED BY ALUMS WHO DON'T DONATE THAN THE GENERAL PUBLIC THAT COMES TO HANGOUT. why don't we have a rule that alums can't enter aggie stadium with or without a ticket unless they also fulfill their duty to donate funds to the aggie athletic foundation? what you think would happen? aggie stadium would be virtually empty...

I know here in DC a number of us were responding to some of these Game Zone rumors and that horribly incorrect. But it is going to take a few years to get this right and there is a need for clarification. However, Game Zone is here to stay and I think we will all make the best of it. I am from the school of thought that we need to determine how to increase other revenue including charging to park on campus in certain areas during game days like other campuses do. However, that has to be balanced with residence life, Saturday academies, classes, etc.

Wait a minute oleschool...you are operating on an extreme here. Not only that you are mixing apples to oranges. If purchasing a game ticket considered a monetary support for athletic programs that we attend...and keeping tailgaters that don't pay anyway out of the area. How do you turn around and say that equates as the same as charging alums to come back and hang out on the yard. Not the same...festivities as you mentioned cost money as well and need to be supported such as: stepshows, concerts and parties etc. I'm just not seeing where one equals the other. Again, in order for our athletic programs to go to the next level...we need to CHANGE in every sense of the word. The one thing we need to change is .... EVERYTHING! But, one thing I would point out is our way of thinking.

Exactly Dex! All the information was not out there about student discounts and such. The only ticket on the website was the 35$ one. It’s almost as if the university did not want anyone to know about the discounted tickets. These are things that people need to know in order to plan their trip to the stadium without receiving a surprise. Events such as these can often be “no discounts or passes” games so the policy needs to be known beforehand. Though some of us already knew about the student discounts, the general assumption by others was that all tickets were 35$, despite the age. As for the Gamezone, I have no problem with it. I hope it grows and explodes of the coming years. My issue is making our game/gamezone more accessible for the future Aggies, families and the community. Not everyone can make it rain like you dudes. On another note, I am reading on Christy’s forum about a dude (non alum it seems) who walked into the game for free because of somebody he knew. Despite this freebie, the dude has the nerve to talk trash about the homecoming. This type of mess has got to stop if we are serious about making money. The hookups need to stop.

We would have made more money by now if we would have had a lower game zone price. That doesn't take a study or a survey. Its crazy how we cant get things totally right on one side (team) and screw up the other side (fans).
Change is good, but were really counting pennies when it comes to this tailgate/fan zone situation.

There's alot of hookups going on in and around Aggie Stadium. Just pay attention on Game Day it's VERY obvious....

Again, in order for our athletic programs to go to the next level...we need to CHANGE in every sense of the word. The one thing we need to change is .... EVERYTHING! But, one thing I would point out is our way of thinking. i'm just saying a parallel can be drawn on the "concept" of those who partake in aggie festivities for free and must be obligated to pay something for it. there's "never ever" been a fee to hangout around aggie stadium where the game is totally invisible to you. hanging out at the stadium is no different than hanging out on campus. why pay for a full ticket just to hang around the stadium? makes no more sense than paying to hangout on campus. well, all i'm saying is if you're gonna now charge a fee for something that has been free ever since a&t has been in the city of greensboro, then why not charge for other things that have been free for all these years also? that's not an extreme, its the same concept as the fan zone. but when it affects aggie alums directly, now all of a sudden our feathers are ruffled. aggie alums come on the yard after the homecoming game every year "just to hangout" and many of them never set foot into aggie stadium and don't partake in anything that contributes to a&t financially. yet, they get to come on campus and partake in the festivities for free. why not charge them too? they're not contributing jack to a&t athletics. they're more obligated to a&t than the community. why shouldn't we milk them for a few dollars too? i'm just saying, if its okay to alienate the community, then why isn't okay to alienate non-supportive alums?

As it stands, if we didn't sell out homecoming we lost money on it. Guess what, we didn't sell out homecoming. All the pro-game zone arguments are shot straight to hell because the bottom-line shows we lost money. As I stated (and was ignored) elsewhere, the tickets are overpriced, the student fees are too high, there is not enough solicitation of corporate support, but we're still crying broke. The school clearly isn't funding the athletic dept. properly and the money clearly isn't being used properly but we're going to blame tailgating "freeloaders?" Stupid. Period.

Maybe I'm missing something here BUT how is A&T alienating the community when it provides you with other options outside of the Game Zone area to tailgate, socialize, etc.
SC State would have a better argument for alienting the community because outside of their Game Zone there is no other option to tailgate ON campus UNLESS you are setting up shop in somebody's yard right outside of campus. We at least have the option to tailgate in other parts of the yard BUT yet we raising more hell than a little bit about that. SMDH........Had A&T said you have to have a ticket to just get on the yard then MAYBE some would have some sort of point but as it currently stands that argument doesn't hold any water.
Option A... Purchase Game Ticket tailgate inside Game Zone or Outside in other areas of campus.
Option B... Don't Purchase Game Ticket tailgate, hang out anywhere on campus OUTSIDE the fenced in area.....
What am I missing?

I think you're missing the fact that we could take all those people who are chilling for free, charge them five bucks to come into the game zone, and make money.

Where is it posted (anywhere) that A&T lost money on the 2011 Homecoming game??? I have personally produced and approved hundreds of official Game Reports (ticket sales, concession sales, parking fees and vendor fees) in both college athletics and professional sports (NBA), and I don't think that it is even possible for A&T to have lost money on this year's Homecoming game. I would like to see where that is stated and who verified that statement.
