N.C. A&T: No game ticket, no tailgatingFriday, September 2, 2011 By Jonnelle Davis GREENSBORO — William Levette’s tailgate party at N.C. A&T’s football games usually includes his mother and father, his 7-year-old son, as well as friends. But with fans now required to show a season pass or an individual game ticket to enter the tailgating area, Levette said he’ll be inviting fewer people to party, something he’s not happy about. “I was a bit disappointed,” said Levette, a 2004 A&T graduate. “I felt like it was kind of taxing the people that have always been there to support the team through the good and bad times.” Saturday’s game against Virginia University will be the first at which fans have to buy a game ticket to access the tailgating area. Those areas around Aggie Stadium, including the tailgating section and parking lot, make up the Game Zone www.news-record.com/content/2011/09/01/article/nc_at_no_game_ticket_no_tailgating

His statement is a bit backwards. If his people have always supported the team through good and bad then it shouldn't be an issue to purchase a ticket.

Hilton wants to believe what he want to believe. He is clearly out of touch of reality. We are still in a recession folks the Job numbers just came out today National Average is still at 9% and its even higher for us black folks. He sound like a typically white man that that can't relate to our struggle.

Trues,
With all respect to your opinion, I have to disagree. Race has nothing to do with this. We have to understand that in order for us to start competing, we have to start using non-traditional means of generating revenue. That means installing this game zone approach. It may not work, fine. We tried! If it does work, we have to stop assuming what black folk can and can not do.

I don't know if his race has much to do with it. His boss (a black man) signed off on it. Maybe it's because he's lite-skinned?
I do believe that Hilton's goal (more money) will be achieved. I don't think he cares too much about community goodwill and that sort of thing, despite his quote in the paper about wanting Ayantee to be "Greensboro's team." If he wanted that, he wouldn't have a 25 dollar surcharge for anybody daring to come within 2000 feet of the team on game day.
Ultimately, if Broadway doesn't like it, the zone will be gone. If he doesn't care it will still be there. As for me, it won't change my personal attendance too much (I wasn't gonna come often anyway due to work and family demands) but it does make me second-guess coming to more games due to the increased cost of paying for the wife and three kids, who wouldn't go inside the game anyway.
I honestly believe one of the goals is to have less people in the tailgate area, thereby making it a more controlled environment. That being typed, you just pushed the riff-raff to a number of other less-controlled areas around campus.
We'll see how it goes...

Gator, I did not say this was racial motivated Hell he cant be racial he works for a black man. I just dont think he can relate to our community therefore he is desensitize to our struggle.
Well Gator maybe you have it going on but there are a lot us that don't and this is not the time to increase fees when the econmy as a whole is suffering.
But I will agree that he is trying I just wish he would charge maybe $5 or $10. I spoke to my my uncle who is a big SCST alumni giver he said there has not been a increase in revenue growth since they started charging for Tailgate and they win games.
Dooms if thats the goal that will be accomplish TRUST

I am pretty sure also that the think-tank didn't vet their idea enough, either. I agree with 90 percent of the Fan Zone idea. Fans should have been paying for parking on campus a long time ago. Scandrett had it for a while and it made money. I don't think the Fan Zone cost should be that of a game ticket unless a game ticket is $10 or $5. I would not get rid of it, keep it forever so that fans will sooner or later accept it.

Yeah, been busy. Another boy due in December.
I agree. Make the price palatable. Making it the price of our already-inflated game tix is illogical. I never had a problem paying my five bucks to park on campus under Scandrett. I wondered where it went when I suddenly could park for free again.

The out of town people have tickets...The locals usually dont want to go in the game...I straddle the fence..I have gone to the tailgaiting area with no intentions of going in, and I have gone to the tailgaiting area with the intent on attending the game..I like the rivalry games..NCCU, WSSU and Homecoming...Other than that, it's hard to stomach all of this losing..I will just abide by the rules like most of us...But, it won't make me spend more money, it will just make me stay home if I'm not planning on going to the game..

i don't like it, but i've come to accept it. i do believe hilton's primary motivation behind the zone is to raise more revenue. i just don't think its gonna do that unless aggie football returns to its winning ways.
that's all i'm gonna say about this because we've got a thread somewhere that's about 20 pages long on this topic. it is what it is, aggies just deal with it because it ain't going away...
