* Insert Kurtis Blow instrumental here* If I ruled the world (or at least a piece of East Market Street) I would ... ... lower the price of single game tickets at Aggie Stadium this year to $15 ... Make it so that anybody with a credit card can purchase athletic merchandise from the A&T website ... retire Maurice Hicks' jersey and make sure no other player ever wears #22 again at A&T ... in any sport. ... find the guy who Oked the construction of those tall azz dug-outs on the A&T softball field and make him personally lower them into the ground a few feet so the fans could actually see the field during games. ... Have a midnight madness event for the basketball team and not let anyone make lame excuses on why this is so hard to pull off. I'll think of some more later. What would you do if you ruled the world?

I would find a way to renege on those life time reserve seat holders on the home side of aggie stadium. We are losing big time money on that deal.
I would resume the game with Elon. The money saved on travel expences for everyone makes "cents".
I would put Renick's name back on the building and Hicks name somewhere on Aggie Stadium.

I would give 1000 tickets to the church and youth program tickets to the Norfolk State game on Thursday.
Make sure the Aggie Mascot is at every game

1. I would name the stadium after the late head coach Bill Bell, and would name the field after either Bill Hayes or Hornsby Howell. 2. I would seek MORE lifetime season ticketholders for football and institute the same structure for basketball. 3. I wouldn't play Elon or UNC-G in anything!!! 4. I would bring back the old "A&T" logo and color scheme from the 1950s, much like the University of Pittsburgh did in bringing back the old "PITT" logo and their blue-and-gold color scheme from the Tony Dorsett days.

What did Bill Bell accomplish that would warrant him getting his name on the stadium?

Bill Bell was the architect of two great football programs, Florida A&M and North Carolina A&T. I don't have time to look it up right now, but took a FAMU program out of the doldrums and won two or three national titles in a very short period of time.
He left Tallahassee for the "greener pastures" of A&T during World War II, leaving his top assistant, Jake Gaither, to run FAMU's program. Coach Bell had some really great teams at A&T before turning the reins over to Dr. Piggott in the late 1950s or early 1960s. I think that he retired as AD in the late 1960s.
He's been highly honored at FAMU and should be at A&T as well. In fact, he is being honored this season by having his face on the game ticket at FAMU's Homecoming game vs. us on Nov. 3rd.
I'm not sure, but I think that he died in the 1980s.

I would ask aggierattler why he would not want to play Elon in football. Their conference has been the best conference in D1AA football the last couple years and they are less than 20 miles away. What's the problem.
I would agree with aggierattler on UNCG.

Wow. That's a pretty good history lesson.
I just learned something new.

BIGBOY-- My problem with Elon is, in all honesty, a problem with US. We let Elon use us as a stepping stone up to Division I. Had the shoe been on the other foot and they were already in Division I and we were the ones trying to move up, Elon would have NEVER, EVER given us a game.
Same thing with UNC-G.
Did you know that former mayor Jim Melvin approached A&T about "shifting" their football program to UNC-G and letting A&T maintain their basketball program??? Dr. Dowdy got up and left the meeting as soon as that statement was made.

Here is more on Bill Bell's tenure at FAMU (I can't get anything on him at A&T yet):
Coached at FAMU from 1936 thru 1942. Overall record at FAMU was 45-9-6. He won three national titles: 1938, 1940 & 1942. His 1938 team was undefeated (8-0-0) with 7 shutouts!!
Again, he left FAMU to serve in the Armed Forces after the 1942 season. After the war, in 1945, coach Bell returned to coaching by "moving to greener pastures" at A&T. His top assistant, Alonzo Smith "Jake" Gaither, took over the program and coached until 1969. Gaither's coaching tallies: 203 wins and 6 national titles.

All you had to do was go to bluedeathvalley.com A&T Historical Archives: www.cfbdatawarehouse.com/data/div_iaa/mideastern/north_carolina_a&t/yearly_results.php?year=1945- Coach William "Bill" Bell coached A&T from 1946 to 1956 - Overall Record 55-37-10 - Best years were '49,'50 and '51 when he went 20-5 - Bert Piggot took over in 1957

Make it so that donations to the university can be deducted from a bank account per pay period.

That's been available for over 10 years. They just don't publicize it and make it incredibly difficult to do.

That's been available for over 10 years. They just don't publicize it and make it incredibly difficult to do. It is not incredibly difficult to do (maybe it was ten years ago). I did it with a phone call and fax, subsequence adjustments (i.e. increases and splits) have been made via email.

That's good to know. Once I'd jumped five hurdles I said to hell with it. I was a struggling law student trying to give folks money and every time I called the one person in charge of the department was unavailable and nobody else knew how to do it. What can you do.
I'm glad those days are apparantly done. What's the number? I'd like to sign up.
