???N.C. A&T's provost steps downBy JONNELLE DAVIS www.news-record.com/content/2011/07/14/article/nc_ats_provost_steps_downBasically, what this appears to be is that Dr. Adams may have been overwhelmed in the responsibilities of being Provost, this position that was newly created after she arrived was a better fit for her experience and also goals of improving graduation rates and improving academic programming. Dr. Alexander is a good and safe interim choice, the question now is will we return to the original candidates or do a whole new search which needs to be done expeditiously. We can count Dr. Byrd out already, she just became Dean a few weeks ago.

Off the top of my head, I would like an external selectee to provide new perspectives.

Off the top of my head, I would like an external selectee to provide new perspectives. Well, she was the "external selectee" one of I remember 3 that interviewed. Ideally I would like to see a President of a smaller institution come in as Provost. The combination of having run an institution and ideally a strong research background would serve us well.

The Provost could have simply stepdown because of personal reasons beyond her control and not because she wasn't up for the job professionally. Dr. Martin just won't let Dr. Alexander retire.
