As I search through their online edition I can find almost nothing on Aggie Sports and UNC-G but as usual there's no lack of coverage on UNC & Wake Forest. What gives?

0-11
Seriously, I've noticed the same thing.

0-11 is not the only reason for lack of coverage!

There simply isn't anything going on that is that news worthy until players report to camp next weekend and summer school grades are tabulated.

I meant to put this in General Sports because I'm not just talking about football.

Same thing applies. A couple of recent basketball recruits and handful of football players waiting on summer grades.

That hasn't stopped other newspapers from printing articles on their local HBCU's. SC State is getting at least one article per week.

Same thing applies. A couple of recent basketball recruits and handful of football players waiting on summer grades. No it doesn't. News is a generated entity. If it was important enough , the university could keep A&T sports in the news year round and create a couple of press releases/stories every week. To me it's either a matter of being secretive, not wanting to, not knowing how, not having resources, or not caring. There could be at least a dozen stories generated from Fobbs' interview with Thrilla alone. It's just not important to the athletic department to be in the news positively. I guarantee if Daniels got five or six story leads a week, he'd write at least one of them. I talked about this last year as far as creating a buzz in the media. With at least 38 new players for football, at least a few of them have interesting routes to A&T. There are two new coaches. Someone could have done a story on the youth camp. There should be more stories on ncataggies.com. Folks that are interested in Aggie sports will read anything about the programs. Just ask yourself, what would be interesting to know? Dozens of things come to mind. You build buzz around a program by giving fans insight into the people (players, coaches, administrators) and the projects (plans, goals, facilities, changes). If you do these things, by the time the teams hit the field or the court fans have a heightened interest in the the program. There's more than enough material, more than enough.

The tdo does a great job with FAMU Sports.. Last week they had stories about the football team getting ready with weight training sessions with pictures!!!!
News & Records can do the same type of stuff!!!
That youth camp would have been a story!!!
Down in the Orangeburg newspaper, they are talking about Mr. Football freshman QB at S.C. STATE aka. "FATBOY"!!!

IMO, it's not just the N&R, it's how aggressive our SID is with the paper and giving them leads.
For example: The A&T swim team(along with Howard and FAMU) just helped form a new Division I swim conference with 11 other schools on July 10th. The formation of the conference will give the kids a conference championship to compete for as well as a bid to the NCAA swim tournament. Davidson, Gardner-Webb and Campbell will be members. All three wrote articles/press releases and did interviews about the announcement for their athletic site and local papers. We didn't. It's nowhere to be found on our athletic site.

I went through the same song and dance concerning the secrecy behind Fobbs' hiring. ...And Small's hiring. They couldn't wait to publicize their firings. That's because our alma mater isn't very media savvy. And that goes for most areas concerning the school. Battle should address this once he's gotten his feet wet.

Speaking as somebody who has worked in media relations, I know firsthand that the SID at A&T is totally overworked. There is way too much basic administrative stuff that he has to worry about for him to spend a lot of time shopping story ideas to the News & Record. Right now I think he is finishing up the media guide and getting ready for camp to start.

SID, maybe pull together students from JOMC and English as interns for the SID and give them experience in this field. I know that there are students who would love to have this experience. Then again, students who need the experience avoid the Register like the plague...but any opportunity helps.

The stories are not changing on the athletic site, why would one think there would be more in the N&R.
