My thinking is like Bigboy stated. Put some classrooms in it and then you get state money to renovate it. On top of that, get some historic preservation grants. Just move that plane from in front of the ROTC building, move ROTC over there, and make the ROTC building into something else. The idea is simple, and were we UNCG the execution would also be simple. Of course, you need people with know how to do that sort of thing. And they need backing from the administration, so that ends that discussion. Does anyone know the opinion of Chancellor Martin regarding this subject?

Nobody's told it to him yet.
10 Steps:
1. Send somebody from athletics and from the ROTC up to State. 2. Ask the folks at State for a blueprint on how to do it seamlessly so that the idea won't be scrutinized to the ends of the earth and has no flaws whatsoever. 3. Present our plan to the UNC system folks and the military folks to get additional backing. 4. Get the go-ahead. 5. Drag the planes over there and fix the place up, including a plaza with names of all Greensboro natives that have died in combat over the years (that gets buy-in from the community at-large). 6. Name it the U.S. Army Brigadier General Clara Adams Ender War Memorial ROTC Classroom and Stadium or something like that. 7. Charge the state everytime it needs an upgrade. 8. Plan for setbacks. 9. Keep in contact with the folks at State for ideas on how to keep it clean and out of the negative press. 10. Regularly invite the N&R over for feel-good stories about Aggie involvement in war efforts over the years (not including Khalid Mohammed).

So, who is going to be the one to tell Chancellor Martin?

Great ideas, above.
There are budget cuts throughout NC state government and 15 percent cuts for each university. How welcome will the NC University System be for these types of creative building financing right now and will N&R have front page articles about it?

A&T would have to be very careful about the image of this once it goes public. It would look very bad for us if we aren't on top of this in the Media.

The AD said A&T and the city would meet on Thursday. Anyone know who (from A&T and the city) or pehaps where? City officials have already outlined their options...with selling the stadium to A&T at the top of the list.
My question is do A&T officals know what they want? This thing has been in the wind for some time now. Seems like we should be in a position to get the stadium/land for next to nothing.
Holding out waiting on the city to renovate the place hasn't worked...not saying that we should renovate it, but what is our stance...do we have other plans or use for the space?

If it's done right, it won't matter. It has to be done in a manner that is proven and cost-efficient, and will provide a great benefit to much more than the A&T baseball team.
If you look at it like an old baseball stadium in East Greensboro that some negroes play at, that's what it is.
If you look at it as a historical building used as a monument to Greensboro's war veterans, a classroom building for the next generation of Greensboro's war veterans and military leaders, and a museum of Greensboro military history that has a baseball stadium on it, that's what it is. Present it as an opportunity, make it so, and watch vets, the state, alums, the military, etc. fight over the right to put money into it.
Make one small error on the execution and watch the whole thing go to hell.
We're far more worried about the negative than the positive at A&T.
Man, imagine the types of baseball players you could get if you gave some scholarships and gave them the opportunity to play at an upgraded historical venue. Give reduced or free admission to all vets, and imagine the community support, goodwill, and attendance.
Imagine the upgrade in quality of student we could get with a good ROTC building to put them in.

I really like how this idea is taking shape the multi-dimensions of the project would appeal to the state because were not creating a new facility but were switching state hands and dollars from city to university. The idea of taking an old historic run-down park and creating a ROTC Facility/ Veteran & Baseball Hall of Fame/ Negro League Museum/ Baseball Facility is the type of collaboration the state claims to want during the economic decline.

Interesting discussion.
As a ROTC grad, I would support this plan. A&T has and continues to produce a large number of military officers.

A klansman would support this plan so long as he was a veteran. But it's not a plan, it's a simple idea from an alumnus. And that's all I expect that it will be.
With 10,000 students (give or take) and 40,000 alumni (give or take), I know ideas like this pop up every day and are never acted on.

We already have proven we can create major waves. Now lets take it to the next level.

Do we have the time to even do anything? Can anybody here tell us what the current status is, I mean, as of today?

Without seeing what the price tag would be or plan on how this would be used if we did decide to buy it, its all conjecture at this point. No one has come forth from the city with a proposal.

Neither have we, and therein lies the problem.
When did A&T become so... lame? As much as I dislike Renick, even he would have been all over this. Fort would have had a full feasibility study done behind the scenes a year ago.
It was once stated that at A&T, we don't teach our students what to think, but how to think. It must be impossible now because the ones that are engendered with the teaching don't appear to be thinking.
