From THE SPORTS NETWORK: 64.246.64.33/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=sportsnetwork&page=cfoot2/news/news.aspx?id=4399458Jets go big again with Hampton's Ellis New York, NY (Sports Network) - The New York Jets selected Hampton defensive tackle Kenrick Ellis in the third round with the 94th overall pick of the NFL Draft Friday night. The Jamaican-born Ellis, who lives in West Palm Beach, Fla., is lauded for his blend of size - 6-foot-5, 346 pounds - and athleticism. He totaled 94 tackles, including 15 for loss, during a dominant senior season last fall. Ellis might have been drafted higher if not for off-the-field problems. He played for Steve Spurrier at the University of South Carolina in 2007, but was dismissed from the team during his freshman year, reportedly for multiple failed drug tests. He also reportedly was arrested for assault last April after punching another man in a fight. He was suspended for Hampton's season opener. Ellis, 23, says he has matured as a person and is ready to succeed in the NFL. "I think I have a universal style of defense - period," Ellis told The Sports Network earlier this month. "I feel like whatever the team needs me to do I can get it done. So it doesn't matter if it's a 4-3, 3-4 nose tackle. It doesn't matter to me, I just want to play football." On Thursday, the Jets used their first-round pick on another defensive tackle, 6-4, 315-pound Muhammad Wilkerson of Temple. They did not have a second-round selection. 04/29 22:27:33 ET
