okay, guys. its been kinda boring around here lately. so let's have a little fun. let's see your pre, pre, pre, preseason "it don't count" predictions for the 2011 season. at this time of the year, no one will hold you to your predictions because as we all know, a lot can change between now and august.
but based on what you know right now and reasonably anticipate (meaning quite probably) happening by august, how many wins and losses do you predict for broadway and the boyz? you can throw in your "if's", "and's", and "buts" if you want.
again, this is just for fun because i don't think anyone can intelligently predict our record for the upcoming season at this time of the year. especially considering we have a new coaching staff and some player turnover...

for me, like most other aggies, i have concerns with our d-line. can't say i have thoroughly evaluated every position on the team, but my predictions are based on last year's performance, the players who are expected back, possible props being eligible, and the new coaching staff.
to me, the overall success or failure of a football team begins with the offensive and defensive lines. if the vast majority of our o-line returns from last season, i think our o-line will be in very respectable shape. imo, last year's o-line performed better than any other aggie o-line since we last won an meac championship in 2003. it appears that coach lee's outstanding freshmen recruits from last year remain on the team and should blossom this year. unlike the recent past, our qb's didn't have to always run for their lives when dropping back to pass last year. i thought our pass protection was very respectable and no question our run blocking was above average given mayhew's 1,000 yd plus season in less than 10 games. we could possibly have the best rb in the meac in mayhew. and lawd knows if frederick wears an aggie uniform this fall, there's gonna be some fireworks in aggie stadium! hate losing buster, but i still think we have a very good core of wr's led by miles. and after last year's struggles at the qb position, i'm straight up "giddy" about having a healthy kindle back in the mix and a potential "wildcat" waiting in the wings in homeboy ricky lewis. with a brand new oc to boot, i honestly think we'll have the potential to be a top offense in the meac that can hurt you on the ground and in the air. if everything falls into place, i think our offense can put up a lot of points.
oh, but that d-line? that's my biggest concern going into august. if broadway can somehow find a way to patch up our d-line, to at least give us an average front, it could turn our entire season around in my opinion. i've got my fingers crossed that somehow we'll land 3 or 4 good solid d-linemen this summer, but i'm not gonna hold my breath. i really think the key to our season rests with our d-line. like i said, i think team success or failure begins in the trenches. i'm satisfied that our o-line will be okay. but i feel both the o-line and the d-line must be solid if we expect to be competitive in the meac. we can't try to win by outscoring folks.
so unfortunately, my predictions are gonna be based on us not adding any "quality" d-linemen by august. if somehow we do add quality d-linemen, i'll change my predictions. but for now, here's how i see it.
Sep 03 St. Paul's College (W) Sep 10 Appalachian State (L) Sep 24 Coastal Carolina (L) Oct 01 Morgan State (L) Oct 08 Bethune-Cookman (L) Oct 15 Delaware State (W) Oct 22 Howard Univ. (W) Oct 29 Norfolk State (L) Nov 05 Florida A&M (L) Nov 12 S.C. State (L) Nov 19 N. C. Central (W)
so for now, i have us going 4-7 this season, give or take a win. more likely 3-8 than 5-6. the nccu game will be very interesting, i actually think that game could go either way, but for now i'm going with the win...

probably 1-10... which is not out of the realm of possibility if certain things don't fall into place...

sounds like a spades playa to me... I wish. I'm probably one of the few HBCU grads that doesn't know how to play. I just remember the lingo.

Like everyone else the d-line is a huge concern. But If we can score points with our new off coord. at least the games will be exciting and interest the fan base. I'll go with 4, but with some depth on off. if we can score points I would be happy to see high scoring losses to the stronger teams in the MEAC.
I think we can beat Howard, St. Paul, Del State probably NCCU but aginst the FAMU and SC States, etc. if the scores put us on the losing end of a high scoring game (example 38 to 28) I'll be ok with that considering what we have to work with on the def. line

I'll say 3-8 but why folk keep referencing Famu as a powerhouse in the conference? Didn't we take them in OT last season with our weak d-line? I would say Hampton, SCSU and BCU are the cream of the crop.

FAMU, BCU & SCSU were co-champions in 2010 and Hampton barely went .500. But with that being said, we just matched up with the Rattlers very well the past few seasons and kept the game close.

Help me out. How many games were we within striking distance late in the game? Or who in that top teir did we show glimpses of hope or give a hard time? I can't remember for some reason, maybe their weren't any. I know the Central game was winnable. I'm thinking we could win some of those with good coaching alone, if we have that same personnel on the field or guys with at least that much talent.
