GREENSBORO — The new athletics compliance director at N.C. A&T is still getting her bearings in an office that has been in turmoil since last year. Today is the first day on the job for Katreshia Louis-Verrett, who was hired from Georgia Tech, where she was assistant compliance director. She inherits, under new athletics director Earl Hilton, a program in which a student died last summer during an unofficial track and field tryout. From Georgia Tech's Athletics website:
Katreshia Louis-Verrett Earns NCAA Degree
Assistant Director of Compliance graduates from the NCAA Leadership Institute for Ethnic Minority Males and Females
June 21, 2010
ATLANTA - Katreshia Louis-Verrett, Georgia Tech Assistant Director of Compliance graduated from the NCAA Leadership Institute for Ethnic Minority Males and Females recently. She was selected earlier this year as one of 23 total participants in this year's selected class.
"This was a very rewarding experience," said Louis-Verrett, who has been at Georgia Tech for four years. "It was great being among people from so many different conferences. It really gave me a perspective on athletic administration as a whole getting to hear so many different stories. I am just honored to have been a part of it."
The Leadership Institute, which is a national program, only selects 20-23 from a pool of national applicants. The course which Louis was selected to be a part of is a 12-month program emphasizing leadership and administration, human resource management, finance and fund-raising, booster, public and media relations and leadership. All of the meetings took place at the NCAA national office in Indianapolis, Indiana. The institute is facilitated by a diverse group of leaders in business, higher education and intercollegiate athletics.
The program was established in 2001 following a recommendation from the Minority Opportunities and Interests Committee. It is designed to address the shortage of senior-level ethnic minority females and males in athletics at the campus and conference levels. Louis-Verrett joins approximately 22 other national participants to the 2009-10 Leadership Institute class.
