Virginia Tech coach Frank Beamer said starting linebacker Lyndell Gibson, flanker Austin Fuller and cornerback Jacob Sykes are transferring at the end of the semester. "We certainly wish each of these guys the best of luck and will help them in any way we can," Beamer said on his teleconference Monday to preview spring football. "With that said, I will not have any further comment on this." Gibson, who started 13 games for the Hokies last year before breaking his shoulder in the ACC championship game, was charged with a DUI in February. sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=6266722

DUI charges, ethics and conduct issues. If all three are associated with conduct problems, I'd be surprised if they are allowed in to A&T.

I agree with you but now that's the Chancellor Martin's call under the Hackney rule and he's not all that predictable.
We have had guys here with DWIs who stayed on the team before when Fort was in charge so I guess anything is possible.

Ex-Salem star at Virginia Tech convicted on DUI charge The Roanoke Times © April 28, 2011 By Shawna Morrison CHRISTIANSBURG Virginia Tech linebacker Lyndell Gibson will pay a fine and complete a Virginia Alcohol Safety Action Program course after being found guilty Wednesday of driving under the influence. Gibson, a rising redshirt junior who plans to transfer at the end of the semester, was pulled over on University City Boulevard early the morning of Feb. 5 and charged with DUI. Gibson, through his lawyer, pleaded not guilty at a brief hearing Wednesday morning in Montgomery County General District Court, but admitted there was sufficient evidence for a finding of guilt. General District Court Judge Randal Duncan sentenced Gibson to 60 days in jail, all suspended, and fined him $1,000, with $750 suspended. He ordered Gibson to complete a VASAP program and placed him on probation for 12 months. He granted Gibson a restricted driver’s license for that time. His lawyer, Jimmy Turk, said Gibson’s decision to leave Tech was made after the school’s Office of Judicial Affairs said it would suspend him for a semester — which would have cost him a football season — because of his legal troubles. Gibson, a 20-year-old from Salem High School in Virginia Beach, is transferring to Hampton University, where he intends to continue playing football, Turk said. Gibson had been charged in March 2009 with grand larceny, petit larceny and destruction of property in connection with an incident in December 2008, when Turk said Gibson and other teammates took what he called a “joy ride” on bicycles they found on Tech’s campus. Most of the charges Gibson faced were dropped; he was found guilty of one reduced charge of interfering with property rights. I guess as a private instution they dont catch as much flack as we do. Although if we bring in a kid with a few past issues - just get out ahead of it. - With some everbody deserve a second chance statement and Broadway is going to be on the kid like white on rice.
Instead we let news and record break the story

Yep...I knew it was coming just a matter of time. But, I'm thinking we can tap into some UNC, NC State transfers and be in just as good of shape.

Hampton has a great process in place for handling these kids. They know how to deal with the local media and are very succesful in keeping these guys from getting in more trouble plus a lot of em graduate. They have developed a brand as a great second chance school.

Instead we let news and record break the story Our problems stem from bringing in Larry Harrison Jr. Hampton probably would not have even admitted him. We first buried our heads in the sand regarding his admittance, and then overreacted. We are not media-savvy by any stretch of the imagination. We're still not, even after the multiple messes that multiple chancellors have had the opportunity to deal with.
