1. Why were the offices of Alumni Affairs, Advancement Services and the Annual fund moved from the Alumni-Foundation Event Center?
We were not in compliance with State and University policy and procedures.
2. Where are the groups moving?
Alumni Affairs will move to “The Oaks” and Advancement Services and the Annual Fund will move to the fourth floor of the Dowdy Administration Building. Offices should be fully operational by July 1, 2006, and the new phone numbers are: Alumni Affairs 336-334-7401 and Advancement Services 336-334-7600. Email addresses for staff will remain the same.
3. Does the Alumni-Foundation Event Center belong to the Alumni Association?
No, the Alumni-Foundation Event Center is totally owned by the North Carolina A&T University Foundation, Inc. The foundation financed the building of the facility and others such as Aggie Suites, Aggie Pride Hall, the tennis complex, the fitness center, and purchased an apartment building that is now known as Aggie Terrace.
4. Did the Bryan House belong to the Alumni Association?
No, North Carolina A & T State University owned the Bryan House that served as the offices for alumni affairs. The Alumni Association was provided space in the Bryan House by the University.
The Bryan House was torn down due to expansion projects for additional housing on campus with the creation of the Aggie Village complex. Initially, plans called for a fund raising campaign to build a new alumni facility. Following initial solicitations and a small feasibility study it was determined that project could take years to complete such as with the Bryan Fitness and Wellness Center.
5. Did the Alumni-Foundation Event Center replace the Alumni House?
The Event Center was initially designed to provide conference and meeting room spaces, house the foundation office and provide space for alumni offices. The alumni offices were added once the fund raising campaign to build a new alumni facility fizzled out in between the demolition of the Bryan House and the creation of the Alumni-Foundation Event Center. The foundation board decided in honor of alumni support of the university and foundation it was quite fitting to name the facility the Alumni-Foundation Event Center where all Aggies are welcome to use the facility.
6. What are the connections between the University, the foundation, the alumni association and the annual fund campaign?
The University is a constituent public university of the University North Carolina. North Carolina A&T University Foundation, Inc. and the North Carolina A&T State University Alumni Association, Inc. are separate, individual incorporated non-profits, more commonly referred to as 501c3.
The Association’s mission is “to encourage and promote involvement of university alumni and other supporters by meeting the needs of alumni and other supporters for alumni services…” and its beginning goes back to its own IRS status being awarded in 1971.
The University also has State personnel who staff the Office of Alumni Affairs which serves all alumni and provides support to the Alumni Association.
The Alumni Association and the University signed an agreement where the university would be responsible for the annual fund and the association would no longer conduct the annual fund. The annual fund has grown over the past few years with over 3,500 alumni contributing which is a little more than 15% and others in a comprehensive approach now are included in the university’s annual fund.
The Foundation’s mission is to “foster the growth, progress, and general welfare of the university by receiving and administering gifts and donations for such purposes…” and its beginning dates back 60 years ago.
Numerous agreements have occurred over the years between each of the entities which have maintained everyone’s independence. When aligned towards common goals wonderful things can occur.
7. Does the foundation pay rent for occupying space in the Alumni Foundation Events Center?
Yes, the foundation pays rent to be in the facility and pays rent to use a ballroom or one of the meeting facility spaces.
