GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) -- Orrick Watkins threw two touchdown passes and Micheaux Hollingsworth ran for a score as North Carolina A&T held off Hampton 38-28 on Saturday to win the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference title.
Watkins' 6-yard pass to Kenneth Perry with 1:37 left clinched the league championship for the Aggies (10-1, 6-0) and a berth in the Division I-AA playoffs.
North Carolina A&T scored on four of its five possessions but couldn't shake off the Pirates (6-4, 5-2), who never led but cut A&T's 17-point lead to three by halftime.
Watkins' 20-yard TD pass to Byron Phillips with 6:40 left in the third quarter made it 31-21 A&T. Hampton got back within three at 31-28 following a 45-yard passing score from Timothy Frazier to Jerome Mathis early in the fourth quarter.
Hollingsworth, who finished the day with 125 rushing yards, scampered in from 53 yards to give A&T a 24-7 lead two minutes into the second quarter. Reserve quarterback Princeton Shepherd brought the Pirates back, hitting Dereck Faulkner on a 50-yard TD toss, then finding Joseph Wilson from 4 yards out with 7 seconds left to narrow the lead to 24-21.
Watkins finished the day 10-for-18 for 212 yards, while Shepherd was 14-of-30 for 174 yards. Both threw one interception.
Alonzo Coleman led the Hampton rushing attack with 18 carries for 109 yards. A&T narrowly edged Hampton in total offense, 400-395.

Actually, for me it doesnt and therein lies the problem. Its ridiculous to believe that a program that was on the top with a cupboard full of talent and brand new facilities should make such a sudden fall....to winning not 3 or 2.......but NO games in over 2 years. That smacks of a lack of institutional support, horrible administrative decisions, and poor coaching.

The funny thing is this year 2007 offensive team could match up with the 2003 offensive team. The two biggest variable on the team are:
#1) Mr Yonnick Matthews #2) Our defensive and special team unit who scored 7 TD by themself
Quick comparison whos better Marshall Glenn or Herb Miller(even but Miller will surpass him) Rico or Shelton Morgan (close again) Doug Brown or Mike Caldwell (a little edge to Brown) Kenny Perry or Curtis Wall ( a little edge to Wall) Byron Phillips or Chaz Dawson Hollingsworth or Speedy Robinson(even) Patterson or Ferguson (fergie the edge) Scriven or McNair (scriven)

i would give the edge to Perry over Wall and I would take Phillips over Dawson and no need to compare QBs because we havent had a great one since Bolin and Maynor
