It was 25 years ago today that the space shuttle exploded, with Ayantee alum Ron McNair among the casualties. I remember it like it was yesterday. I was in elementary school and at the time we watched all the shuttle takeoffs in school. This time we were out for a snow day, so I watched it at home.
I was just wondering if any of y'all have memories of that day, especially anybody who was in school at A&T at the time. I'm wondering did any classrooms show it and what the reaction was.

I was in elementary school watching. Had know idea what school he went to at the time. Got to A&T and when I saw the building on a visit that day instantly came back to me. Gave me a little more "Aggie Pride" finding that out.

I was at A&T in Scott Hall when it took place. Man I was so proud that an Aggie was going in space. It was nice takeoff and I was clapping then the big bang Guys started running in the room did you see that and I was like in total shocked. I was last for my class trying to watch the coverage. I was hoping they got off the shuttle before it exploded. I didn't know who Ron McNair was a month before the accident but after the news coverage and just talk around campus you felt like he was a celebrity.

I was in elementary school. I remember most of the people were upset because that school teacher died.

I was in Scott (3rd Floor) also, I had hurried from class to watch the launch I remember feeling that Pride when the shuttle took off and going insane a few seconds after the explosion sitting in my room alone it happened and I yelled what the f..uck and started asking people who weren't in the room did you see that, when I came to my senses I realized I was alone and began to run down the hall to other rooms asking people did they see what I saw like it wasn't wasn't real.

I was in Cherry Hall watching with some other engineering students and professors. It was a surreal moment. Hearing all the bill up to the launch made you proud as an Aggie. Once the shuttle exploded your heart felt hollow.

I was a senior at Lake City High School (Ron's hometown). I didn't see the actual liftoff, I believe I was coming from lunch, but watched the replays on the news when I got to my next class. Lake City has a great memorial to Ron and they truly keep his memory alive. My junior high school was renamed Ron McNair Middle School in his honor and the main drag into Lake City (Hwy 52), was renamed Ron McNair Boulevard.

I was in Scott (3rd floor) and remember having a memorial service for him in Moore Gym.
