BLACKSBURG, Va., – The North Carolina A&T indoor track and field program opened the 2011 season with some impressive marks.
Led by a personal record performance by Earl House, Jr., the Aggies looked focused. House had a third place finish in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.74. The time automatically qualifies him for the USATF Track & Field Indoor Nationals held in Albuquerque, N.M., February 26-27.
“I am very pleased with my time,” said House. “(Associate head coach James Daniels) has done a great job of preparing us and keeping us focused on and off the track.”
In the same final, teammate Darryl Williams finished sixth with a time of 6.86. In the men’s 500 meters, junior Jarrell Elliott finished third overall with a time of 1:04.46, a personal record and the sixth fastest time in school history.
On the women’s side, the Aggies were led by Krystin Lawson’s fourth place finish in the 60-meter dash with a personal record time of 7.53.
“I did not run well most of the indoor season last year, and to come here at the first meet and improve so much, I am very happy,” stated Lawson.
Jenea McCammon, a 2010 Outdoor 400 meter hurdle Junior National Finalist, finished eighth overall in the 500 meters with a time of 1:16.92. She was followed by freshman Roshel Bygraves who finished ninth with a time of 1:17.00.
Kristin Rush finished eighth overall with a personal record in the 1000 meters with a time of 3:06.99, and Janessa Benn finished 10th with a PR time of 3:09.57.
“Any time you compete against such schools as Arkansas, Florida State, North Carolina, North Carolina State, South Carolina, and Virginia Tech and the athletes compete at a high level and make the finals; you have to be pleased,” said Daniels. “We will take every opportunity to get better each meet. Basically, all the athletes on the track or in the field events improved upon last year’s marks and I am proud of them.”
The Aggies will compete this Friday in the Great Dane Classic being held at the Armory in Manhattan, N.Y
