Middle of the pack in the SoCon kinda much like us in the MEAC. They just have a lot of millionaires that can write big fat checks and build a stadium or a law school inside of two years by themselves if they need something.

You MUST !!! NOT keep up with SoCon football-- ELON is NOT middle/pack; why do you think their coach got picked up by a STRONGER conference ??

Simple, He won a ton of games, supplanted Wofford as the second best program in the best FCS conference behind App State and took his team to the big dance four years in a row that's why he's at Ball State now.
Spin it any kind of way you want, coaching football is all about the wins and losses when shakes out and that will ultimately determine whether you keep your job or not.
Don't let anyone tell you anything different.

Zowie!
Yup, it's hard to stink if you're budgeted at the top end of your conference. Shoot, he's budgeted above all three of the SoCon teams that ended the season in the top ten.
Of course, even with that budget they made the playoffs only once under Lembo. It'll be interesting to see how they do.

the southern conference is very "overrated". folk think because app state has been so successful in recent years, that the socon is one of the best fcs conferences. but it ain't. other than app state and elon, the rest of the conference wasn't really that good based on fcs standards. true, the socon is better than the meac. but its nowhere near as good as the caa... They're about equal how can you say they're about even when the caa has twice as many teams ranked or receiving top 25 votes as the socon does? and, only 2 socon teams have won a national championship over the last 12 years, while the caa has 5 teams to do it. both the caa and the socon have 12 football playing teams in their conference, but the caa has 9 teams ranked or receiving top 25 votes, while the socon only has 5. top to bottom, the caa is clearly stronger than the socon. unlike the caa, the socon is top heavy. i don't think anyone who knows fcs football would argue that any other fcs conference is stronger than the caa. the caa is the sec of fcs football. here's a breakdown; caa teams ranked or receiving top 25 votes delaware jmu wm & mary umass new hampshire richmond villanova odu rhode island socon teams ranked or receiving top 25 votes app state ga southern Chattanooga wofford elon caa national championship teams over the last 12 years delaware jmu umass richmond villanova socon national championship teams over the last 12 years app state ga southern

But the comment was "very overrated". Nothing there supports that statement. That's a comparison to one other conference based on recent history. They may not currently be the best conference in FCS, but they aren't overrated. When the conferences’ representative play for the NC it’s generally the SOCON left standing. The SOCON has had multiple times were members have played each other for the NC. “Very overrated”, I think not. If so, who else is rated above them?

maybe not "very" over rated, but over rated nonetheless. they're top heavy. last season only app state and elon were ranked. ga southern and wofford are back in the mix now, but last season the socon was down.
who's rated above the socon? the caa is easily a stronger conference from top to bottom. but if all you want to consider is the top 2 or 3 teams, then yeah, one could argue that the socon is one of the strongest. but not from top to bottom. the caa has far better depth than the socon.
also, the conference that e. washington, montana, and montana state play in is also amongst the tops in the country. e. washington won it all this year and montana loss in the championship game to villanova last year. the socon hasn't had a team in the championship game since app state last won a national championship...
