I just read the article about it this morning in the News & Record (couldn't find it online yet).
Reportedly, he gathered 311 signatures and turned it into interim athletics director Early Hinton this past Monday.
Surprised that I haven't seen the petition. I would have signed it too.

Check out this out from the article:
"Whoever the next guy is, he's going to have a tough challenge, " said Hines, a finance major on track to graduate in May. " ... We preach Aggie Pride so much. But we've been known for so long for firing guys and getting new guys and firing those guys. I can't recall a time when my own university has stuck behind a guy. And in times of adversity, you need more support than you need to throw another guy away."

Amen.
It's a damn shame that a college student in his early 20s is more mature and pragmatic than some of our administrators and sheepish fans.

While this is a great effort by Hines, I don't expect it to gain any positive results from the University

I wouldn't sign it but I applaud him for standing up for what he believes in.

Wasted Time! Wasted Energy! Let's move on in a positive fashion! What would be a positive fashion and do you consider this act of Pride and Loyalty negative fashion? BTW, I wonder how he got paper time.

I am with you Decks.
Although I think we need to put more energy in making sure the university gets this one correct.
Whatever the reason the man went 1-10. Larger universitys fire Coaches that go 7 and 4 nor less 6 and 5. Go 6 and 5 at Oklahoma or Nebreska and see how long you are going to be there.

Oklahoma and Nebraska actually give their coaches everything they need to succeed.
We give our coaches everything they need to have a losing season.
Whatever the reason, Hayes went 4-8 and got fired. Now look at us. What happens when Martin (or his replacement) decides they don't like who they brought in? More of the same stupidity.
The current business model we're following is the one that schools mired in the longest streaks of losing seasons have followed for years. Find a scapegoat, fire him, repeat.
If the Chancellor has any sense, he'll call a press conference, be a man, admit he made a mistake, and put some money and infrastructure behind a re-hired Coach Lee.
If he doesn't he'll just do the same thing he did at Winston and Renick did here (make a dumb decision with the help of others and skip town before the isht completely hits the fan, and leave us further in muck).

I think everyone of us on this board knows that Lee will not be reinstated. Why not focus our energy on pressuring the Chancellor to get it right this time, i.e. an experienced, energetic AD and coach. Not a Bill Hayes (who should be planning his retirement), not a Cornell Maynor (one season does not make a coach).
And, oh yeah appropriate some $$ to do this thing right with a vision of taking advantage of the facilities, the local HS talent, the fans, the corporate community and the education that our great University has to offer.
If you are going to blow up and start over, get the foundation right!

I see the petition a great gesture of loyalty by a player. However, the picture is bigger than what he or any other player can fathom. He doesn't know what's best A&T and its football program. I realize he's touched these players in some ways but, on Saturday it was not demonstrated. I went to one game where the players had to be seperated...as in wanting to fight. If they were all in for this guy, something like that would never happen. So, I'll say he's not mature enough to understand what's best for the team...its too big for him. However, I do admire the effort.

I'm curious. How do we "get it right this time?"
What was so wrong the last three or four times?
What are we doing differently than we did before that makes anybody think things will turn out differently?
Who specifically can we bring in that can overcome the obstacles that Lee had to face?
Everybody wants to move forward in a new direction. I fail to understand how in the world you can ignore the immediate past. Doing this same crap is how we continue to be mired in muck.

I wouldn't call Hines effort as wasted time. He a'int hardly gonna get Lee his job back but he can help shed light on some bad practices that helped contribute to Lee's downfall. As the starting qb he may get someones attention.
