FAMU coach Joe Taylor said late Friday night that Trainor, a North Florida Christian graduate, is getting the start while Martin Ukpai works through personal issues. Taylor denied rumors that Ukpai had withdrawn from a class and became ineligible to finish the season. The decision to bench Ukpai wasn't made until just before the team left for Greensboro early Friday morning, Taylor said. He said he had a one-on-one conversation with Trainor the night before making his decision, although sources said Trainor was put on notice as early as Thursday. Trainor was promoted from third-string to Ukpai's backup a month ago, leapfrogging senior Eddie Battle. Trainor has appeared in four games this season and has completed two of eight passes with an interception. Ukpai completed 67 of 144 passes for 908 yards in eight games. He's thrown five interceptions and is averaging 113.5 yards per game. Taylor said Ukpai could see playing time today.
