HSRN ANNOUNCES 2010 BASKETBALL NATIONAL COACH OF THE YEAR WINNERS

Hartly, DE – The Heritage Sports Radio Network (HSRN) National Coach of the Year fan poll results are final and the fans of the N.C. A&T Lady Aggies are commended for giving big support to their coach with over 13,000 votes.
HSRN developed the fan poll for entertainment purposes to get all HBCU alumni, students and fans involved with the national process and to also give everyone a chance to consistently keep up with the individual performances around the country. This web site and our broadcasts are designed to keep you abreast of all action around HBCU athletic competition.
Let’s take a look at the winners:
Division I (Men)
George Ivory – Arkansas Pine Bluff – guided the Golden Lions to the 2010 SWAC Tournament Championship and a berth in the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament. UAPB defeated Winthrop (61-44) in the opening round, and were defeated by eventual National Champ Duke (73-44). Their first round win was the SWAC’s first national playoff win since 1993. UAPB finished the year with an 18-16 record. The final voting results are: Ivory 775; Todd Bozeman – Morgan St. 441.
Division I (Women)
Pat Bibbs – N.C. A&T – guided the Lady Aggies to the 2009-10 MEAC regular season championship with a 14-2 conference mark. The Aggies also made HBCU major college history, becoming the first to make it to the “Sweet 16” of a Division I post season tournament, making it to the third round of the WNIT. The Aggies defeated Wake Forest 73-49, UNC Charlotte 77-70, before falling to Miami 84-77. They finished the season with a 23-11 record. The final voting results are: Bibbs 13,602; Vanessa Inge – Bethune Cookman 4,579; and Donnita Rogers – Grambling 214.
Division II (Men)
Lonnie Blow, Jr. - Saint Augustine's - is the 2010 CIAA Coach of the Year after guiding the Falcons to one of their best regular seasons in school history. The Falcons won the Western Division title for the first time since 2004 and reached 20 wins for the first time since 1997. The Falcons, 27-5 overall, won the 2010 CIAA Tournament Championship and made it to the NCAA Division II second round. The Falcons defeated Kutztown 70-54 and loss in the regional semi-finals to West Liberty 90-83. The final voting results are: Blow 839; Darryl Jacobs – Clark Atlanta 443.
Division II (Women)
Robert “Bo” Browder – Xavier (NO) – is the 2010 GCAC Coach of the year. He guided the Gold Nuggets to an impressive 18-0 conference mark and a 28-6 record. The team went into the NAIA Division I national playoffs with a 21 game win streak, before losing in overtime in the first round. The final results are: Browder 1,065; James Hill – VA. State 179; and Lonnie Bartley – Ft. Valley St. 117.
