Save these quotes for when Lee is calling out the quarterback in the Fall... bluehaze, calling out a qb as opposed to calling out an entire team are two different things. and to state that a qb is missing some reads is entirely different that stating you need to recruit better players. and guess what happened when fears got replaced by kindle? we saw kindle make the reads that coach implied fears was missing. i'm not saying players are above criticism publicly by their coach. but to insult the entire team by basically saying my players aren't good enough to win games, is totally different than calling out a single player, tactfully...

He wasn't insulting the entire team. He was just insulting the players that weren't JUCO transfers.
His comments did not apply to Dwane Joshua.

AGGIES ELIMINATED BY MSU
WINSTON-SALEM – During the two regular season games against MEAC regular-season champion Morgan State, the North Carolina A&T men’s basketball team got some indications it could knock off the Bears.
With that in mind, the Bears wasted no time on Wednesday putting to bed any thoughts of an Aggies upset. The Bears shot 54 percent from the floor to eliminate the Aggies from the 2010 MEAC Tournament with an 84-57 win in the quarterfinals at Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
The top-seeded Bears will move on to play the winner of the Norfolk State vs. Hampton game played Thursday at 8 p.m. Meanwhile, the Aggies season comes to an end at 11-22. It marks the first time in three seasons the Aggies failed to get at least 15 wins.
Sophomore Nic Simpson led the Aggies with 17 points. Tavarus Alston added 11 points, but failed to get an assists for just the second time this season. The Aggies, who played well against the Bears at Corbett Sports Center and led the Bears by 13 in the second of their game in Baltimore, shot just 37.3 percent on Wednesday.
“Morgan played super today,” said Aggies head coach Jerry Eaves. “They were excellent defensively. They were very physical. They forced us out of our offense. They kept us 20-25 feet away from the basket most of the game. We had a hard time getting the shots that we wanted. And we did, they did a good job of contesting those shots.”
The Aggies got off to a good start. Senior Robert Johnson found a cutting Dwane Joshua going to the basket for a layup that gave the Aggies a 5-2 lead three minutes into the ballgame. But the Aggies mustered just one field goal over the next 12 minutes of the first half.
It took the Bears a while before they took advantage of the Aggies slump on offense. But from the 13-minute mark of the first half, the Bears hit 9 of 15 shots to take a 35-15 lead. When Alston hit a runner in the lane with 5:50 remaining, it was the Aggies first field goal in seven minutes.
“Basically, they defended us real well,” said Robert Johnson. “We weren’t able to get the ball in the paint the way we needed to. It goes back to us not being physical enough. It’s tough going out like this. I enjoyed playing four years under coach Eaves. We had some good times together.”
The Aggies will lose Johnson, a Greensboro Dudley graduate, along with Alston (Greensboro Smith graduate), Dwane Joshua and fifth-year senior James Porter. The Aggies have signed four recruits for the 2010-11 season.
The Aggies expect to return nine lettermen next season, including five sophomores, three juniors and senior shot blocker Thomas Coleman. Eaves said he will also look to bring in two junior college players to fill out the roster.
“It’s not something I enjoy doing because you want people in your system for four years,’’ said Eaves after being out-rebounded 43-26 on the boards by Morgan State on Wednesday. “But the maturity of the athletes in terms of size is a little better.”

man, i'll tell ya one thing. anybody who doesn't believe bulletin board material won't fire up an opponent is sadly mistaken. i don't know what news article morgan state read, but whatever article it was, it made bozeman's job against us a whole lot easier.
disrespect is the ultimate form of motivation for most athletes. that's why i was a little critical of the general when he publicly predicted we'd beat hampton and he publicly tipped his hand to shut down bcu's running attack. obviously the general wasn't intentionally disrespecting hampton and bcu, but it doesn't matter as long as they construed that he was.
"i think" one of eaves' players might have stated in an article that he felt we could upset morgan since we blew a double digit lead against them at their place. that's a no, no for players to say publicly to the media. one of the first things a college coach should do is make it clear to their players that you "never" disrespect your opponent publicly. no matter how much better your team is, that's something that you "never" do because it'll always come back to bite ya in the butt...

If the players aren't good enough or talented enough who's fault is that? its the coach's fault. he brought the players in, he's not putting them in a position to succeed. What's the point in having Thomas Coleman anywhere other than on the block? and putting Joshua on the other team's best scorer (Holmes from MSU) like yall said he needs to look in the mirror, he's the problem.

I saw some of the players at the Arena today, they are respected as champs.
One more note from last night. When Morgan started playing a slowdown type offense and the game being over (up by about 25 or so). Eaves put in Upchurch, RJ Buck, Lawrence Smith, J Williams & Marc Hill with about 4+mins left....next year's horses. They looked ok.
Marc Hill is shooting better. He should work on his shot all summer. The team is still a step slow is helping Hill out. He finds himself in tough situations sometimes, but one thing I can say is that he goes to the rack.

Winston Salem Journal reports……… N.C. A&T advances: Johnson chips in 21 points; Morgan State is next By John Dell JOURNAL REPORTER Published: March 10, 2010 N.C. A&T will live to see another day at the MEAC Tournament thanks to a hard-working 65-55 victory over Howard last night at Joel Coliseum. And for a reward, the Aggies will play top-seeded and defending champion Morgan State tonight in a quarterfinal game. With about 45 seconds left and the game in hand, Coach Jerry Eaves of the Aggies turned to his players on the bench and said: "I want Morgan State, bad."Eaves might want to be careful what he wishes for.The bench did most of the damage for the Aggies (11-21), led by Nic Simpson who scored 21 points, had three rebounds and two steals in 25 minutes. James Porter also came off the bench to score 12 points, grab six rebounds and hold his own against the Bison (7-25) on the inside. The turning point came with around 14 minutes left when the Aggies cranked up their defensive pressure, led by reserve guard Marc Hill, and went on a 9-0 run over the next six minutes. From there, the Bison never recovered and the Aggies closed the deal. There have been plenty of times this season when the Aggies let late leads slip away. But not last night. "That was the best team effort that we've had, probably since the Hampton win (on Feb. 15)," Eaves said. "Everyone played extremely hard and extremely well, was unselfish with the ball and we attacked the basket. "We got to the free-throw line and we did that because we were very lethargic the first two times we played them." The Bison had beaten the Aggies twice in the regular season. Despite and off night from guard Tavarus Alston (2-of-12 shooting) it was his teammates who picked up the slack. Thomas Coleman added nine points and 14 rebounds and had two blocked shots. In the first half, Hill came in with the Aggies down by nine, but his instant energy and ability to run the half-court offense got them back on track. He played just 14 minutes, but when he was in he made a big difference. www2.journalnow.com/content/2010/mar/10/nc-at-advances/sports/

well, okay. after reading the article again, it did say he was talking to his bench. so that's cool. but its the reporter (john dell) who needs his azz kicked for publishing that quote! it appears eaves was only talking to his bench and that's just a show of confidence to his players. no problem making that quote to your players...

Contrary to "some people's" beliefs oleschool, I've don't nor have I ever had any agendas. I just called it like I saw it with everything I've ever posted. Whether the coach was winning or losing, it didn't matter.
But even I must say, I never thought it would be as clear as it is with Eaves right now. That might be the first time I've ever seen a quote like that in a paper. Wow.

Sounds like Eaves was just trying to inspire his players as they headed to the next round of the tournament to face the best team in the conference.
And it sounds to me like a local sports writer was just trying to find a way to make his game story more interesting.
I was actually in the media workroom after the game that night when John Dell, the writer of this article, came in with a smile on his face and told everyone what he overheard Eaves say to his bench. The actual quote, according to Dell, was "I want Morgan, so f****ing bad." But of course you can't print that in the paper.
BTW: I was the one who told Dell "he better be careful what he wishes for." So in a way, I think I deserve a co-by line for this article or something.
In the postgame press conference, Dell asked Eaves about what he said on the bench and that's when Eaves said something about always wanting to compete against the best and that you shouldn't be afraid of competition.
I forget the exact quote, but it was way more PC than what Dell overheard Eaves say on the bench.

I agree with oleschoolaggie, players are made during the summer. Instead of bringing in JUCO players who maybe more mature physically and mentally, your also possibly bringing alot of baggag. Programs are successfull when they develope what they have. I believe the Aggies can be very good next year. Witter, Powell need to hit the weight room this summer. Coelman and Upchurch t polish up on post moves. Our guards are experienced with with Hill, and Simpson. Smith and Buck are awesome atheletes that can work on their shot this summer. The problems that Eaves has are very minor, compared to just working with them now, his summer, and preseason. Also, we do have talented Freshman coming. I beleive that Eaves would make a mistake by bringing in JUCO's.

You guys act like Eaves hasn't already targeted JUCO players during his time at A&T. Usually the results have been less than great.
Remember Ed Jones, Glenn Nelson, Pat Gregg and Dwane Joshua were all JUCO players.
I think that is just a cop out made by Eaves to appease his critics.

We should not let Eaves new contract stress us out. We have him for 3 more years wheather we like it or not. Lets just hope and pray that he can finally get the program back on track. I personally wish him all the luck in the world.
