Charlotte, NC – The Lady Golden Bulls basketball team earned a season sweep over Lincoln University (PA) with a 67-52 victory Saturday afternoon inside Brayboy Gymnasium. JCSU improves to 12-3 in the overall standings, while the Lady Lions drop to 2-11.
Johnson C. Smith controlled the tempo for the majority of the contest. Both teams shot 32% in the opening, but JCSU outscored Lincoln 36-22 in the first half. J.C. Smith was 11-of-17 from the free throw line (64.7%) in the initial period, while the Lady Lions only converted on two of their four FT attempts.
JCSU did not relinquish their advantage in the second half. Lincoln trailed by as much as 24 with 7:10 remaining. Lincoln was dominated on the boards, getting out-rebounded 55-43.
Junior forward/center Brittane Neely (Arlington, VA) reemerged with a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds. Junior guard Tyra Breaux (Baltimore, MD) scored nine and sophomore forward April Smith (Auburn, AL) had nine points and eight rebounds.
Sharay Dubose led the Lady Lions with 16 points and six boards.
“We came together as a team to generate scoring, but we lack consistency in areas,” said JCSU head coach Vanessa Taylor. “Like any team, we’ve had to deal with some injury, but it’s good to see players stepping in and stepping up as needed. There’s so much parody in the league this year; Bowie will be a tough challenge, but we look forward to the opportunity.”
The Lady Bulldogs handed JCSU their first loss this season in Bowie, MD (63-49) on November 30th. Johnson C. Smith will fight for a season split on Monday, January 18th inside Brayboy Gymnasium. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 pm.
