I believe we were down 20 at the half & made a run in the 2nd half. Got it to 10 and then we got cold. The announcers noted that we made Miami look sloppy. We ran out of gas, and Mia started hitting shots. It was not a bad look for the Aggies overall. Porter had a few blocks. We needed more inside points. I need to see the stats.

i've watched coppin play west virginia, nccu play indiana, dsu play ohio state, and all three played the same style of basketball against the major d1's and all three were able to keep the score close for at least 3 quarters of the game. the style they used was "disciplined" basketball, running the shot clock down to about 10 or 15 seconds before attacking the basket. i don't think any of the three (csu, nccu, dsu) shot more than maybe five or six 3's for the entire game.
that being said, i didn't see the a&t/miami game, but based on how many 3's we shot (11 of 34), it doesn't appear that we played a disciplined style of basketball. we shot more 3's (34) than non-three's (21) for the game. thus, according the news article, we immediately fell behind by double digit figures (21-5) to start the game. by halftime we were trailing 44-22.
now here's where i'm critical of my guy, eaves. why does he insist on trying to "outshoot" major d1 teams? they have more guns than us and it doesn't give us a chance to win. in the three games i mentioned above, none of the major d1's were out of the woods by halftime. csu, nccu, and dsu were all within striking distance at halftime (less than 10 points behind) and kept the game reasonably close until the last 9 or 10 minutes of the game. they executed all options of their offense and despite the odds, they gave themselves a legitimate chance to win.
look, eaves knows a hail of a lot more about basketball than i do, but for the life of me, i can't figure out why he doesn't play a more deliberate style of basketball against the major d1's. i'm okay with his run 'n shoot style against meac level teams or even mid-majors. but when we play major d1's, i think we should emphasize a half court game, only running breaks when they're there, take time off the shot clock to shorten the game and allow your possessions to play defense for you. this way, the major d1's must exhibit "patience" on defense (which most teams don't do) and your offense can take advantage of the major d1's lack of patience anytime their defense breaks down. and, at the same time, your team gets use to executing it's offense throughout all it's options.
tomorrow night we play 16th ranked tennessee. if we continue to play run 'n gun, this game could get ugly quick. i think eaves is rolling the dice that we'll come out with a hot hand. if we do, i can see some validity to the run 'n gun style that we play. if we don't, this game might not be very pretty for us...

The issue is the extremely slow starts. maybe by starting the game in a traditional off. - You one slow the pace of the game allow players to get into some type of flow. (First 5 -7 minutes) After that go to your run & gun.
They have a made a late first half run or early second half run in all these games but they find themselves down so much early it takes all they can do to bring it back to single digits or so.
