Saturday's Game
Wildcats (5-2, 2-2 MEAC) Host Aggies of NC A & T (3-6, 1-4 MEAC) Saturday at 4 p.m.
Coming off their 27-6 road win last Saturday at Winston-Salem State, the Wildcats (5-2, 2-2 MEAC) host North Carolina A & T (3-6, 1-4 MEAC). The Aggies made a coaching change last week with new interim head coach George Ragsdale taking over the program and leading A & T to a 21-20 win over Howard. The win snapped a 25-game MEAC losing streak for the Aggies dating back to the 2005 conference season.
Bethune-Cookman University used a great defensive effort (B-CU limited WSSU to 47 second half yards) and Sr. QB McKinson Souverian scored three- 4th quarter TDs to propel the `Cats to a 27-6 win in North Carolina. The score was tied 6-6, entering the fourth quarter before the defense and special teams (Stephen Berthelot's blocked punt and Corey Council two punt returns) combined with the B-CU offense for three fourth quarter touchdowns and the conference victory.
Sr. DB Travis Roland led the B-CU defenders with nine tackles, eight of them solo stops including three QB sacks and four tackles for losses in the win. Roland also forced a fumble and recovered a fumble and broke up a pass against Winston-Salem State. Roland was named MEAC Defensive Player Of the Week.
DB Antonio Cox blocked a field goal attempt late in the second quarter and the Wildcats' defense shut out the Rams for the final three quarters to key the MEAC road win.
Souverain, in his third start of the year, went most of the way at QB (Jr. QB Matthew Johnson also played some offensive plays) rushing for 79 yards and the three - 4th quarter TD runs to pace the offense. Freshman QB Maurice Francois is out with a shoulder injury suffered in the Oct. 11 homecoming game vs. Delaware State and Souverain stepped in to lead the offense. Sophomore RB Brian Sumlar had 96 yards rushing and his 42 yard TD run in the third quarter tied the game at 6-6.
