1999 will forever be remembered as the most successful season in A&T football history. It was a year when an unlikely Aggie team – picked to finish near the bottom of the conference - would rally together, settle some old scores and go on to achieve unprecedented glory. Led by Hall of Fame head coach Bill Hayes and featuring a host of legendary players, the 1999 A&T football team finished undefeated in the MEAC, won the school’s first-ever playoff game, and was eventually crowned the mythical black college national champion. Now, as the A&T football program looks to begin a new era under Alonzo Lee, bluedeathvalley.com has decided take a look back and celebrate the 10th year anniversary of what was arguably the greatest Aggie team of all time. We’re pleased to announce a new series of exclusive interviews featuring some of the key members of that historic ballclub. First up is former free safety Darryl Klugh, the senior captain and leader of the ’99 Blue Death Defense: www.bluedeathvalley.com/exclusive_interviews/exintv_darryl_klugh_6_19_09.html

BTW: We are working on getting the entire 99 team back together in Greensboro for one of the football games this year.
My plan is this to honor that squad by having the 2009 team come out in throwback uniforms and helmets for one game this season.

See if you can find some information on Hornsby Howell's Black National Football Champions in 1968(?).

My favorite player on the greatest team ever. My mom still gets excited whenever she sees him at the games. His hit against FAMU that brought the entire stadium to their feet and had us yelling "hit em harder" is still the greatest hit I've ever seen in person 10 years later. Thanks Bornthrilla.

I was living in Chicago at the time of the FAMU game. I had to listen to it via WNAA internet broadcast.

i attended that famu game and i have "never" heard aggie stadium louder than that day! i mean, aggie stadium was packed and the aggie fans were rockin' and flatout raucous! i took some video of that game and you would have thought it was a big time fbs game.
the only other game that i can remember that might rival the noise level of that game was when elsworth turner and da boyz upset south carolina state at war memorial back in the late 70's. that was just before aggie stadium had been built but i think all of greensboro heard the aggies that night! jeffries was still coaching scsu at that time and they swore the refs cheated them out of that win and proceeded to flatout "dominate" us for the next 8 to 10 years. kinda how we dominated central for all those years...

Man. That interview was on it! If you could pull of that 10th Anniversary Tribute Throwback Day....
See if Russell could donate the uniforms. Do it for the Central game. Man, I'm hyped. How can we help? Fantastic idea !!!!!

The throwback uniform idea is very doable.
We can just have members of that 99 team autograph the throwbacks helmets and jerseys after the game, and then sell them all off in the bookstore or one big auction.
I know I would love to buy a authentic gold helmet with all the signatures from the 99 team on it.
We could recover the cost almost immediately, and maybe even make a small profit.

I wish that I could relive the FAMU game over again, the greatest day I ever had at Aggie Stadium. Think I need to break out my scrap book from that season.

I'm with you on this one! That FAMU game atmosphere was awesome. Me and a buddy drove down from VA for it. I remember that hit Klugh put on Nunnally on that slant route....and he just stood over him. The Aggies totally intimidated FAMU that day!
