The word "rebuilding" has to be removed from our vocabulary. i removed it from mind over a year ago...

I agree that $35 improves attendance, but does it meet revenue needs? I dunno know. We just have to trust that our AD's analysis is on target.

I disagree with that philosophy.
I think as a contributing, passionate alumni base we all need to take a greater watchdog role in regards to our athletic department and work to ensure they are always making the right decisions.

I wonder if it would be possible to include a full season of parking passes in the price of the season ticket book.
That would justify another $20-25 dollar increase on the season ticket price.
For example: $199 would get you 2 full season ticket books and 1 parking pass for each home game.

Let do a quick comparison of other schools
NCCU- 4 games- $110(Morehead State, Cent Mo, Central State, and Savannah St). Good Luck selling tickets. $100 early birds(who is going to see those games)
WSSU- 5 games -$75 before Aug 15(A&T, FAMU,Hampton,Del State, NCCU). Great deal. General Admission ticket for the A&T game $25

NCCU is crazier than Lindsay Lohan. Ninety nine percent of their crowd will just be walk ups.
On the other hand it seems WSSU is really trying to reach out to the entire community this season. This is probably part of their overall fundraising/ corporate development strategy.
No WSSU fan should have any excuse right now not to support that program.

i miss the days when you had to enter aggie stadium before noon to guarantee yourself a seat for the homecoming game. my butt use to hurt from sitting on those aluminum bleachers for so long. Noon?? You must be talking about the reserved section. ;D When I was in school (97-01), you HAD to have your tail over in the stadium by like 11.30 to get a good seat, when the game started at like 1 or 1.30.

we need to get our fans back in the stadium and $35 for a homecoming ticket is too much for a team that hasn't won a homecoming game in years... Nope. We need to improve the product on the field. That's why we have a new coach. Anyway, the incremental value of lowering the ticket price is negligible. For every person that complains about it somebody will be there ready to take their ticket at the asking price.

i don't think so, maxell. folks who complain about the price of homecoming tickets ain't buying 'em. that's why we don't sellout homecoming anymore.
its not because of the performance of the team that we don't sellout. we've had lean years prior to the losing streak and we still soldout for homecoming. in '87 we won only 3 games and the following year in '88 (hayes' first year) we only won 2 games, but we were still selling out homecoming.
its primarily the price, not the team's performance that caused the dropoff in homecoming attendance. a lot of folks who attend the homecoming game aren't even there for the game. they're there to see and be seen.
in my opinion, if the ticket price was reduced at least $5, we'd probably sellout the stadium as opposed to approximately 4/5 of the stadium. i'd estimate that there's about 2500 to 3000 empty seats at homecoming. if tickets were reduced $5, you'd probably have 3000 additional tickets purchased ($90,000) while losing approximately $90,000 from cheaper ticket prices. so we'll still gross approximately the same amount of money but instead of empty seats at homecoming, we'll have a sellout like we traditionally do.
i guess i've been to so many homecomings over the years that i'm simply accustomed to seeing sellouts. empty seats at homecoming is depressing to me. there should never be an empty seat in the house on homecoming day...

This year the odds are against us because the game is two weeks later than usual, but I bet you a funnel cake that we sell out this year. Because I believe the product on the field will be better regardless of our record.

maxell, if we sellout the homecoming game for $35 per ticket, i can live with that. personally, i can afford to pay that much. but i still think $35 per ticket is too much.
i just want the homecoming game to be a sellout every year. i'm all for raising as much revenue as possible during homecoming, but just not at the expense of depressing the atmosphere...

It wasn't last year. That was the most boring homecoming weekend ever, in my opinion. Plus a lot of alumni were canceling their hotel rooms after the NCCU fiasco. Yep.

i just want the homecoming game to be a sellout every year. I want every game to be a sellout. We just have to win football games. We play Norfolk, Hampton, NCCU and Bethune(HC) at home this year. Those games have the potential to do well attendance-wise. All will be at night except HC. Beating WSSU will propel us into the first home game against Norfolk. Being 2-0 will get a good draw the next week against Hampton. We go on the road to Coastal and then back home to play NCCU. We could very easily be 5-2 going into Homecoming. As I say every year the Winston Salem (used to be NCCU) game is the barometer for the whole season. If we beat them by three touchdowns, we will have a special season. If we win by more than a touchdown, we'll have a good season. If we win by a touchdown or less, we'll be under .500. If we lose, forget it.
