Yeah, I said it.
BR's performance tonight at halftime of the SCSU men's game, combined with their show against WSSU on Saturday, proved to me that these ladies are the most versatile performers we have on campus.
The fact that they are able to execute so many different genres of dance is what sets them apart. I love GD to death, but I think they only have to perform about 6 different routines in their entire season.
BR has about 20 different shows, ranging from hip hop, old school, slow jams, and even Baltimore Club music. Plus BR is out their longer (about 3 and a half minutes) and they don't have a marching band to help them out.
This past Saturday they were doing the spongebob square pants and on Monday they were doing one of those modern dance numbers that Thelma Evans used to always break out for the rent parties. (BTW: I miss hearing Bookman do that Wolfman Jack impression. And I loved when Penny and Michael performed their duets. Classic)
That my friends is the definition of versatility.
But back to what I was saying, BR is more talented than GD. GD is still thicker and finer ... but Blue Reign is the more talented dance squad.

Thrilla, there you go again speaking out of parts of your body other than your mouth.
Yeah you might be right regarding dance alone but remember BR doesn't have to swing them big azz poles around in syncronized fashion while running up and down and around a football field that is 60 yards wide. They don't have to twirl batons with fire and throw them up and catch them w/o burning something important. By the time GD get to the dance, they are tired as hell. And then on top of that they dance again with the band. Not to mention the routines that they do in the stands during the game, in the fifth quarter and in the street. Your so called 6 routines per season is really closer to 30-40. GD is in performance mode the entire game and in addition to that in over half their games they have an opposing squad to contend with and they have to go on the road which creates additional pressure. BR is performing. GD is performing and competing.
And they have to look good and do all of that?
Make no mistake BR gets much props from me. They do the hell out of what they do, but you might need to rethink your conclusion regarding talent and versatility. BR is a dance team, that's what they do. GD is a marching band auxillary.
P.S. There's only one way to settle this. ;D

:oOkay,I want to put this out there now before anyone decides to take this forum and run with it.....(1)Yes,everyone is entitled to their own opinions on who are the better "dancers"....BUT.... I feel like there are a lot of misunderstandings when it comes to BR and GD.... -I will admit this is probably the BEST I have EVER seen BR,but I wouldn't get excited and say they are BETTER than Golden Delight...From regular fans sitting around me I could hear people saying "I thought they were hip-hop dancers?" "Don't they look like the band dance girls?"....and I began to wonder the same thing.BR has developed and changed into more of an AUXILIARY than the "hip-hop dancers" for the basketball game that many people assumed they were...They have more of an HBCU Auxiliary LOOK & I have yet to see hip-hop dancers form "kick lines" -YOU CAN NOT COMPARE THEIR HALFTIME "FEATURE",TO A HALFTIME "SHOW",notice the words "feature" and "show",Golden Delight is in the show from TOP to BOTTOM...the ENTIRE show!!From Marching out of the band room,to pre-show,to marching into the stands, performing stands,halftime-show,p-funk,back to stands, and 5th quarter...How do u compare that to what BR does for a bball game??? -That is the exact reason why people should stop comparing BR and GD,we do 2 completely different things in different ways,We have a different IMAGE as well as executing our performances at different levels-We have no problem with being fans or supporting the different organizations on this campus,we don't HATE and don't try to STEAL THEIR SHINE-We do not look at BR as our competition,we look at other HBCU Auxiliaries in the MEAC (when technically you can scratch some of them off the list) BUT FOREMOST we are doing what we love to do,which is perform... You have people on this campus who love GD & BR and there is nothing wrong with that!!!!This could be much longer, but I'll leave it at that......." TO EACH IT'S OWN-But,Good Job tonight Blue Reign,I have no problem giving credit where its due,Its gettin better.....

I just don't think people realize how difficult it is to perform two completely different shows every game for more than 3 minutes each. Plus you are not able to blend in with a marching band; you have to stand out there, front and center, all by your lonely.
In addition, they have to perfect all the latest dance styles and incorporate moves from the hottest videos. Fast numbers and slow jams. All the while, you are getting zero money and support from the university.
BR has a minuscule budget compared to GD, but they still find a way to maintain a high level of creativity in their shows and come up with different themes each night.
For my money, BR is just a little bit more talented right now.

OHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, it's going to get hot up in here!!!!!!!! No gloves please.
I personally like both groups. It is obvious that they work hard while being students academics). And you are definitely right when you give accolades to BR. Their performances have been great.

For my money, BR is just a little bit more talented right now. As I said "We are different,we cant help it they have to dance for 3 minutes twice in a game and we dance for 90 seconds, but we are moving and performing in a 8-9 minute show"....I dont understand exactly wat u mean by blending with the band???But while we are marching with the band we happen to be twirling 6ft poles that "you would call blend because they happen to be precise at every show",but if someone where to mess up u would notice..its a 6ft flag (lol) and majorettes twirling batones,if someone drops u notice...Its constantly a PERFORMANCE,I dont understand the blending part......But there are no hard feelings ya kno, people have their own opinions and we arent all meant to agree with each other .......It doesnt really bother me who u care performs the best (notice I have hardly mentioned that) I just dont want u to have a misunderstanding of what it is that WE DO.....But once again it proves my point on how we do[glow=red,2,300]2 DIFFERENT THINGS[/glow],In my opinion you cant compare what we do to what they do,Its just not the same.....But "TO EACH ITS OWN"

Don't roll your eyes at me, Ms Thang.
When you can do the spongebob square pants ... and perform a tribute to the movie Mahogany on the same night, then we can talk.

I just would like to point out that I don't think anyone is trying to be like anyone but themselves. Case in pt, if you look at some of the nba dance teams that dance during that season like BR, you'll notice that they do hip hop, and jazz routines. CHeck out the NY CIty nicks and Bobcats, and Laker Girls. All versitale. And I think GD can do hip hop, but like everyone seems to keep bringing up and not understand its just two diff styles of dancing for two diff seasons.
Let all the hating stop and the Aggie Pride begin

Further more to this message quote: ""I thought they were hip-hop dancers?" "Don't they look like the band dance girls?"....and I began to wonder the same thing.BR has developed and changed into more of an AUXILIARY than the "hip-hop dancers" for the basketball game that many people assumed they were...They have more of an HBCU Auxiliary LOOK & I have yet to see hip-hop dancers form "kick lines" The only reason people may be saying they look like band girls is bc 1. I guess they missed the kick lines they did in 2001, 2002, and 2003. #2. BR has changed up their clothing to be a little more fitted and revealing since they usually wear cargo pants, #3. random people started classifing the girls as hip hop dancers when they always have done diff types of shows like modern black history perf, but I guess those were missed too, and #4. somebody please tell me what is an auxially look, bc I have seen many bands and dance teams and a lot of them wear similar things some times besides leotards and all over sequence band uniforms, but then again ballerinas were leotards so does that mean they are auxillary and what about people like the las vegas show girls, bc they also were costumes and things that auxillarys wear. I'm confused.

Aint nobody hating. Every time we start this discussion, people are always quick to accuse somebody of hating.
We are just talking about dancing and giving our personal opinions about the abilities of each squad.
Right now, I happen to feel that BR has demonstrated more overall talent than GD. However, that does not mean I don't still love to see GD perform. They are very talented also ... and thick ... and oh so fine.
However, they are not quite versatile enough to mix the spongebob square pants with Thelma Evans. Only BR can do that.

lol bornthrilla,
Not everybody hates but I call it like I see and hear it, and apparently there is still some retarded tension between BR and GD that has stemmed from prior years and lingerd on like a cancer. I just want everybody to get along and realized the crowd don't care who dance when and where as long as there is some dancin going on.

Bornthrilla I disagree with you,I dont feel like you can take their shows and say that Golden Delight can't do it....You dont know what Golden Delight is capable of doing so I disagree with you putting a limitation on what Golden Delight can do.I mean unless you are at their rehersals and you know their strong points and weak points....other than than that I dont see u making that call I honestly don't think those girls would WANT OR EVEN TRY TO ATTEMPT to do what Blue Reign does....Im not going to sit out here and point out all the wonderful things Golden Delight can do,but I agree with the young lady above.....They do different things,[glow=red,2,300]GOLDEN DELIGHT 2008 SQUAD[/glow] is killing all the danceline in the MEAC!!!! Im sure they dont worry about Blue Reign....And thats the problem, forums like this get created and Im sure the girls read them and then problems get started..... I think Golden Delight is MORE talented....and BR is getting better...I mean GD just does so much,u caught an attitude with the young GD lady [who I believe is being very classy and tactful] What about when they march long parades and then have to perform at for the football game???Would u count that as two shows in one day?? I agree they are different,so stop comparing them...

Girl, I didn't catch no attitude with the GR lady. If you can't tell when I'm just teasing with you, then that's your problem. Half of GD's members work at my son's daycare. I live right next door to the junior assistant Golden Delight co-director (is that good enough for you Tiffany Those Golden Delight girls are the best. Except for when it comes to mixing sponge bob with Thelma Evans. Then, BR is clearly the best.
