In 1999 we won the MEAC Championship, the Black College National Championship, and our first ever NCAA D-1AA playoff game.
In 2000 and 2001 we went 8-3.
In 2003 we won another MEAC Championship.
In 2008 we now have the worst D1 football program in the entire western civilization.
So just what the hell happened?
Your thoughts?

Lack of football Knowdedge at the following positions; Chancellor (RenicK), Athletic Director (Dee Todd), and Coaches (Small & Fobbs). In other words 'top-down' incompetence. It had to be for no one in the chain to catch such a massive fall.

Why are we dwelling on what went wrong? The past is just that, the past and all the people that are being blamed are all gone. The question should be, what can we do as alum and fans to keep this situation from happening again. Oh, and by the way Small has plenty of football knowledge as evidenced by Taylor naming him his assistant HC at FAMU.

Just because you stink as a coach does not mean you don't have football knowledge. I don't think Taylor would have hired him if he did not have knowledge of the game. If you have been around the game as long as Small has you can't help but have knowledge of the game. Would I want him as my head coach? Probably not!!!

I believe that the new leadership has to a choose a head coach with impeccable credentials for winning, recruiting, management and fund raising. He must have head coaching experience.
The new leadership must also hire an experienced fundraiser (with a transparent track record) who can reach the local business community as well as the national community. That person needs to be able to convince alumni and friends to willingly give to athletics.
One idea that may need to be kicked around, is asking alunms to designate in their annual giving to the Foundation/Alumni 10% or 20% to athletics. That would allow a lot of donors who think that the state supports athletics to contribute. In the annual A&T mailngs solicitng contributions, each alum could be asked if they would be willing to designate a percentage to athletics.

I was on the yard in 99. I also went to the playoff game. Special Teams, North and Moe won that game.....
