I'm currently a cable subscriber but considering a switch to Dish (Comcast is getting on my nerves (poor customer service) and wallet (raised rates)). How to you rate "the Dish" in:
Channels offered Price Customer Service
If you switched from Dish to Cable, why?
Thanks.

IMO, go to DirecTV instead of Dish.
I left cable to go to Dish Network about 5 years ago and enjoyed the service there. I stayed for over 3 years, but switched when ESPNU came out and was on DirecTV and not Dish Network. Also, Dish Network at the time didn't have the NFL Network (that has since changed).
I've been with DirecTV now for about 2 years and haven't had any problems. Also, if you have BellSouth for your telephone company, it's $10 off your bill.
Basically, I get the local channels, standard programming, the kids package(keeps the daughter occupied), sports package (keeps me occupied) and HBO for $71.
I also get the NFL Sunday Ticket(only available on DirecTV) in the Fall.

I had Verizon Fios and that was simply the best service I ever had. They don't offer it in my new neighborhood so I've got DirectTV. DirectTV has the most counterintuitive remote control I've ever seen. I'm considering getting rid of it even though it has the ease of being combined with my Verizon bill.

I had Verizon Fios and that was simply the best service I ever had. Dooms, you're right about that, cause I wouldn't trade my Fios for nothing in the world. But the real deal is I've had both Dish Network and Directv. My choice would be Directv. Dish Network had a dish that was designed with 2 feed horns or LNB's (the eye that receives the signal from the satellite). I was always losing my signal and had to call customer service for assistance. Things may have changed now, but that completely turned me off with them. When I changed and went with Directv, their dish had 1 feed horn and I never lost my signal, unless it was a really bad thunderstorm.

Didn't know anything about Fios until this thread. Hopefully, its offer in my area. FIOS(fiber optics) should be offered by other telephone companies. Verizon installed a fiber optics network in a lot of areas, but still offer the old analog network in the form of copper wire for telephone and DSL internet service. Verizon FIOS offers telephone, internet, and tv service which come down the same pipe of tiny glass fibers transmitting data over light waves. TV and telephone reception are off the chain and the internet is blazing fast.

I've had Dish for several years and I love it! I haven't had the problems that some of you mentioned. I really like Dish's dual mode DVR receivers. You don't have to have a receiver for every tv. Both of my receivers are downstairs and we have two more tvs upstairs. You can point the remote at the tv like the receiver is there when it isn't. The signal travels through walls and floors. I have the Top 250 package, local channels plus HBO and Cinemax.
I do wish they offered an NFL package like Directv though.
