this is one of those fun threads, but i would like to know who's the "fastest" aggie currently on the football team? heck, and to make it even more fun, who's the "fastest" aggie football player "ever" to play at a&t?
i don't know all of the 40 times of all players on the football team, but i'm thinking in a 100 meter race, who's the fastest? now my own "guess" based on stats that i've seen is that perhaps kj white and jailen hicks are the fastest players currently on the football team. as for "all time"? that's pretty tough to guess but off the top of my head, i'd have to say that may have been tarik cohen or perhaps desmond lawrence (both of them were on the track team). wow, i also wonder among qb's, if kj white is faster than kwashaun quick was before his injury? they are the two fastest aggie qb's that i can think of.
what say you?

Hard to imagine anybody on the current roster faster than KJ White on the football field, but Hicks might be better suited for certain track and field distances.

Desmond Lawrence ran 10.1 100m Cohen 10.74 as HS Senior. Gabriel 10.25 Malik Wilson was football fast but in hs the best time I saw was 10.9. McRae was said to run 10.5 , I could never find a time for him on the track sites. Reams ran low 46 splits on 4x4 but I never saw a 100 time on him. If they raced, my $$ would be on Lawrence in 100 and 60 but Cohen in 40yd. White is the fastest QB

I can't believe Taymon Cooke hasn't been mentioned...at least in the 40.

Quick was a great read option QB, but his straight line speed was nowhere near KJ's.

gabriel was the dude i was trying to think of but brave posted his name which is what jogged my memory. everybody knows that coach broadway strongly believed in "speed" and his squads were "loaded" with plenty of it. i'll never forget that meac/swac challenge game against bama a&m, that game was a straight up "track meet" for us. i mean, we had td runs of 26 yards (quick), 59 yards (quick) and 80 yards (cohen) as well as a 95-yard kickoff return by tony mcRae, all in the first half.
speed kills!!

Quick was a great read option QB, but his straight line speed was nowhere near KJ's. i agree, but i wouldn't say quick's speed was "nowhere near" kj's. i believe kj is gonna have a "field day" against wssu. kj gained all of his college experience last season having played only against d1 teams. so i think playing a d2 team and now having tons of experience under his belt, to me spells a kj "field day" against wssu...

Are they (FAT fully automated time) or hand times . For me before I give my answer I would have to know if they are time automatically or by hand. A four three hand time is in the 4.36 range which is not a bad time. So are they being time electronically or by hand.

The Desmond Lawrence is the man . yeah, i think dez was a better track athlete than a football player. talk about not having "hands"? dez kinda reminded me of renaldo nehemiah, former olympic gold medalist hurdler who was "converted" to become an nfl wr for the 49ers. somebody observed nehemiah's speed and athleticism and figured he'd make a great nfl receiver cuz nehemiah ran an extremely impressive "4.1" forty. well, nehemiah's nfl career (which only lasted 4 years) never lived up to expectations. obviously i don't know this for a fact, but i get the same impression that someone observed dez's speed and figured he'd be better served by playing football. dez was a "dangerous" receiver in the open field "if" he friggin' caught the ball, but he just didn't have very good "hands". he might've been better suited to play rb than wr cuz he had the body and definitely the speed to play rb. thing is, if you convert a trackster to become a football player, you have to make sure that he also has the appropriate "toughness" to play football...

John Carlos gave the NFL the shot also with basically the same results. But Skeets hands were a little better. Yes he had the body but did he have the knowledge and technique to play running back. There is a reason the majority of your great running backs are not world-class sprinters. As my father used to tell me you have the speed but you have to learn the wiggle. By that he meant you can't get to the hole before your block materialize and you have to learn patience and how to stay small burst into daylight once the hole opens up, that is where you use your speed. Backs like Gale Sayers, OJ, Marcus Dupree, Bo Jackson, Curtis Dickey all had world-class speed but they understood how to set their blocks up and how to gauge their speed in burst . Even with The Kid . Once Tariq understood how to gauge his speed and set his blocks up he didn't have to pop outside as much as he did until he got to the second level where he could actually use a straight line speed. Lawrence was a straight line Runner he ran terrible routes and a lot of times he looked lost running them . But speed like his can't be ignored and can be used to open up the underneath routes. Carter was good at using the threat of Lawrence going deep to open up underneath routes receivers. I just hope we get a receiver and a smooth route Runner.

Slightly surprised that none of you mentioned famed Olympian Gold Medalist Bullet Bob Hayes.
