LOUISVILLE, Ky. (KT) - The search is over and a coach with ties to the University of Louisville basketball program will be charged with restoring the Cardinals to national prominence, but it won't be Richard Pitino. Shortly after the news broke Wednesday that Pitino had announced he was staying at New Mexico, Jeff Goodman of Fieldof58 reported that Pat Kelsey of College of Charleston will be hired to succeed Kenny Payne, who was fired at the end of the season. Kelsey is a disciple of former U of L had coach Chris Mack and assistant Dino Guadio. Kelsey's salary at Charleston is $1.1 million per year, which consists of $600,000 in base pay and $500,000 in private funds. His buyout, according to USA Today Sports, was $1.1 million. www.kentuckytoday.com/sports/college-of-charleston-coach-pat-kelsey-set-to-take-over-u-of-ls-program/article_4b8ad668-ec77-11ee-b400-d34c4ec4746f.html

Lol, they do not sponsor football. Add Brown and Ross salary together and we could get one hell of a basketball coach too.

Veteran college basketball coach Chris Mack is headed back to the sideline. Mack is expected to become the next head coach at Charleston, sources confirmed to ESPN on Friday night. Mack is the former head coach at Louisville and Xavier and has led his teams to nine NCAA tournament appearances in 13 years. Mack hasn't coached since being fired by Louisville in January 2022, a departure that led to that school's ill-fated hiring of Kenny Payne. www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/39837186/chris-mack-return-charleston-head-coach
