'Sister Presidents:' Raleigh's 2 HBCU presidents on ties that bind the schools and their friendship By Joel Brown WTVD logo Wednesday, February 15, 2023 Both HBCUs are looking for ways to boost revenue and renovate aging facilities on campus. They're pitching plans to reimagine the universities with private partnerships. The proposed "Shaw U District" aims to rezone many university properties and then lease them to private developers. At Saint Augustine's, McPhail is finalizing plans to lease 12 acres of campus for a 320-unit multi-family project. The plans have fueled some criticism that the schools may be selling off their legacies. abc11.com/hbcu-black-colleges-advocacy-day-shaw-university/12821202/?fbclid=IwAR0wUpydmtYU9MKIpZQ3So48szXNuM-L1iCOATJvfRNMgWVXLeCDupZoDKk

Am i am the only one? the convo they should consider having is about partnering and merging to eliminate duplicative programming and promote cost savings. It's the elephant in the room that no one seems to think about...at least not out loud. Mergers are such a loaded topic for HBCUs because it generally means merger with a PWI. In this case you have two HBCUs. A University of Raleigh that is more streamlined, that doesn't duplicate programs might be a better long term solution. It's at least deserving of a study.

If Clark College and Atlanta University could do it, then why not?
On the other hand, what's keeping ALL of the AUC schools from merging? They'd immediately become one of the top universities in the nation.
Tradition.

A University of Raleigh with historic Shaw and St. Aug’s campuses 🤔🤔. The athletic savings alone could justify it.

There is saying around the AUC that demonstrates their elitism, paternalism, and sexism. Marry a spelman woman. Date a CAU woman. And you could use your imagination in regards to what they said about MOB woman.

I brought up the following idea to my Morehouse and Spelman relatives and got cussed out:
I have a buddy that graduated from Tulane, but her degree said Newcomb College or something like that. She said that although her degree is from Tulane, all women got degrees from Newcomb College or some crazy sheeet (been a long time, can't remember all the specifics).
So I told my kinfolk that the AUC could do something similar. Morehouse could be the male honors college, Spelman, the female honors college, Clark the general comprehensive college, and Mo Brown the remedial college or sumpin. All under the umbrella of Atlanta University. All the traditions of each college could remain and the whole AUC area could be revamped and redeveloped into a massive mothership of Black excellence.
I damn near got tomatoes throwed at me.
I really don't know enough about Shaw and St. Aug to know how compatible they are or even what the distance is between the two campuses. But it does seem like a no-brainer to join forces like Voltron rather than go the way of St. Pauls.

Religion is one F up MoFo 😆
