Story by Andrew Gould • Yesterday 6:22 PMDeion Sanders is reportedly close to taking a new college head coaching job.According to CBS Sports' Su'a Cravens, Sanders will leave Jackson State for either Colorado or Cincinnati. The former USC safety said it's "95 percent a done deal" that he goes to Boulder to coach the Buffaloes. Kevin O'Donnell of Tampa Bay's FOX 13 also identified UCF as one of three finalists Wednesday morning. He said Sanders has told recruits he'll be at a new school by Sunday and added Thursday that the former cornerback "could be ready to accept Colorado's offer." Sanders turned Jackson State into an FCS powerhouse. He shocked all of college football by landing this year's top-ranked recruit, wide receiver Travis Hunter. The undefeated Tigers can win their second straight SWAC championship by defeating Southern this Saturday. Recent reports indicate that will be Prime Time's final game coaching the HBCU program. Sanders will face a tough challenge if Cravens is right. Colorado fired Karl Dorrell after an 0-5 start and finished 1-11. The Buffaloes have completed one full season with a winning record -- they went 4-2 in 2020 -- since 2006. Meanwhile, Cincinnati watched head coach Luke Fickell take Wisconsin's job after going 57-18 in six seasons with the Bearcats. Sanders would be a marquee hire for any team that lands him.

Isn't that what's supposed to happen. Good coaches move on for better pay and programs. It's not personal. Didn't he start out coaching high school...wish him the best of luck and get another good coach.

just to be clear, the article didn't exactly state that coach prime has publicly accepted cu's offer. but the article does state that its "95 percent a done deal" and coach prime has not publicly stated that he's not leaving jsu.
so i don't want us to get ahead of ourselves cuz so far, coach prime has not publicly acknowledged that he's leaving jsu. but dang, the article "boldly" states that coach prime's final game at jsu will be this weekend at the scg against southern...

They must be offering Prime a lot of autonomy for him to consider those two programs. I hope J-State can keep the party going after he leaves, because those SWAC foes are waiting to beat the dog mess out of JSU once he leaves after all that bragging they've been doing the past couple of years.

Just my opinion . . . PAC 12 (minus UCLA &USC) over American Athletic Conference Boulder/Denver over Cincinnati Colorado over Ohio What else? Colorado is the state’s flagship school. He will get what he wants. The state is used to Black folk in leadership roles. The last two out of three coaches have been Black. The mayor of Denver has been Black for the last 12 years and 24 of the last32 years. The current US congressman for Boulder is Black. Socially, there is strong Black upper class in Denver area anchored by former professional athletes. If he wins, he will have the entire state wrapped around his finger. Almost every family has someone that went to CU. Lastly, the weather is much better than you think.

I watched a 30 for 30 about Coach Bill McCartney and how he turned Colorado into a national powerhouse with their stolen split national championship back in 90. McCartney was all about "the Black athlete" and went to great lengths to get us there and understand us and what we were going through when we got there. Deion can follow the recruit from Cali and Texas blueprint and probably do a decent job in that overrated conference.
I assume both sons will roll out with him. I wonder how many other players will enter the portal. On the real he did a lot to regrow a moribund fanbase and massively upgrade the program. I wonder if the replacement will come from on staff or will they look elsewhere.

The line started forming today! Hell, Campbell wants to play JSU for JSUs homecoming and Campbell's homecoming. youtu.be/i0GW0Vnr9Yc

CBS News Colorado has learned the University of Colorado planned to offer Jackson State Head Football Coach Deion Sanders a starting salary of more than $5 million per year to become the next head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes. According to the CBS News Colorado sources, if Sanders achieved nearly a dozen contractual benchmarks, his annual pay would increase by roughly 40%. www.cbsnews.com/colorado/news/colorado-buffaloes-5-million-deion-sanders-boulder/

Yikes.
I just read a story that said USF is still hot on his trail but he's leaning towards Colorado. The story said he wants to be involved with the design of their new stadium if he's hired.
Dude is a generational talent.

Sanders will only be successful at Colorado if he compiles the right staff . It's a big difference between the competition levels in the SWAC and the PAC week in and out . Going from playing sparsely talented programs to playing equal talented programs week-in and out it's a completely different animal altogether .

What's the over-under on how long it takes Jackson State's football program to return to its pre-Prime performance level?

What's the over-under on how long it takes Jackson State's football program to return to its pre-Prime performance level? If he leaves they’ll probably be mediocre and middle of the road in the East the following year because it’ll be a lot of talent transferring out, especially considering he’ll be taking the best of the talent with him to CU. Curious as to what Travis Hunter is doing. But by 2024 my guess is they’ll be 100% back to their original form in the Nike era. In short, it’ll be southern and FAMU’s conference for years to come
