We got plans for a facility near the current facility near the football stadium. The details are located in our BOT materials.

Yeah, we gonna be alright when we open our facility. just wish the band got new practice field included in the deal...if you're wow'd by what the BGMM does now, imagine what they could do with a practice field the size of an actual football field!

I'm more concerned with that minimal scholarship budget they have. If we had the amount some other bands have, we'd have at least 275/300+ on the field a year

What happened to the proposed referendum to increase student fees to supliment the band program, or was that just something we spitballed here on BDV?

I was just thinking over the weekend why have we stopped tapping into the talent pools at UNC-G and Bennett College for potential band members. When I was in the band, we had several members from both schools.

I guess they are both state supported schools and some students take classes at both campuses so why not band students. One of my favorite Golden Delight members several years ago was a UNC-G student. I wish we could use that connection to get more UNC-G students to buy tickets to A&T football games. Hell they don't have a teams so why not come see the best show in town!

Unfortunately the band is a non-revenue organization so it's always going to need donations. Just putting a band on the field is expensive...uniforms, instruments, staff, and travel and meal costs for 150 people! It's going to take a fundraising organization like the AAF to provide funds for scholarships. The Blue & Gold Loyalty Foundation is making an effort to help fund the band now but it's going to need a lot more members and a bigger effort.

The $100,000 in scholarships is what the university has allocated to the band? If so....why so low?

I think one of the problems for our marching band is that it does NOT roll up to the music department. Most bands that have scholarships, their bands roll up to their respective music departments. That is significant because, music is a discipline and it doesn't take as much effort to raise money to fund scholarships for music students. On the flip side, our band falls under the Auxiliary Services unit at the university. Thus, it will take more of a fundraising effort to provide scholarships to band students. So, in the end, what we find is our band never really grows up...meaning by the time the majority of the band students hit the 2nd semester of the Junior years', they have to leave the band to either: work or focus on the major. Sad state of affairs, it's like a vicious cycle to some degree.

Sad state of affairs, it's like a vicious cycle to some degree. University departments have students... those students pay tuitions and that pays for the staff and instructors in that department. A&T's Instrumental Music Department's enrollment ain't got enough students! And they have been declining for years. Think about it, how many students today want to be high school band teachers? So with few "band music majors" there's no funds coming in to pay staff or instructor salaries. So the University had moved the band to various departments in hopes of finding a "funding" source. And with no funds, you can't fund scholarships or build big fancy "band rooms" so you operate out of an old warehouse. I'll say this again, I'm not mad at the University for not providing more band scholarship dollars. I'm just glad they are funding the uniforms, instruments, band staff and travel budgets. Band scholarships are on us! Every Aggie that enjoys the halftime shows, watching the Golden Delight prance into the stands, talking trash to the Eagle and Howard fans about how we kicked their butts at halftime and is looking forward to the BGMM marching on to Big South campuses this fall and totally embarrassing them...we need to step up and help raise band scholarships. If the AAF can raise a $100,000 the BGMM fans should be able to do that too!

We still have UNCG students in the band. We even had Golden Delight members from UNCG a year or two ago I believe.
