This was mentioned by Aggie 77 in a separate thread and I actually believe it deserves its own thread. I have heard A&T increasingly referenced as both N-Cat and I even heard one kid reference NC A&T SU as "new cat sue." I almost fell out of my damn chair. Talk about NOT controlling your brand?? Under NO CIRCUMSTANCES should we allow for A&T to be referenced as such. I would dare say this is the by-product of A&T's increasing popularity OUTSIDE of the state and folks who don't know a damn thing about A&T coming up with their own way to reference our name and in doing so, generating these ridiculous referrals to N-CAT and New-Cat-Sue. They should be immediately corrected EVERY TIME. It's ridiculous and burns me up. AYANTEE or simply "T" should be the only acceptable abbreviation of our name.
That's my angry rant for the day. LOL.

The N-cat name started in the email era. Somewhere in the Mid 90s. Many people on this board graduated before we even had university email accounts, so I can understand why that would sound foreign. I always hated that name and everybody I knew only referred to the school as ‘T. I don’t know about the new cat sue nickname. That doesn’t even make sense.

Why do kids find the word "and" so time-consuming to say...or to type nowadays??

I don’t know about the new cat sue nickname. That doesn’t even make sense. NCATSU I get the "sue" part ... but why replace N with the word New? North Cat Sue would make more sense to me, but how did they come up with New?

Either way they are taking the letter N and bunching it together with what follows (NCATSU) and butchering our institutions name.

I graduated from T in 97. I think we got campus email in 95. I NEVER remember hearing A&T pronounced N-CAT from anyone. I first heard that from some younger high school students last year who were interested in applying.

NCAT is also related to the hash tag thing (#NCAT) where hashtags don't work with the "&". It's also awkward to do #NCAandT

#Ayantee then.
I said it in some other thread a while back. I even had it in my signature on one of the old MEACFANS message boards. "There are many A&Ms but only one A&T." We've failed to capitalize on that and trademark it. Beat people to death with A&T and that interlocking A&T symbol, period. I wouldn't even mention NC when referring to the school. If we're trying to build a national brand build it with bricks. But that's just one man's opinion, and this man's opinion is shaped on the interlocking A&T that was used when I was in school in the early 90s and the way we all referred to A&T as such or as Ayantee, period.

I wonder if the design of the new football jerseys is intended to address this issue? Maybe having “NC A&T SU” on the jerseys is a “branding” move.

A Publix worker asked me if I went to “N-CAT” recently. SMH.

A Publix worker asked me if I went to “N-CAT” recently. SMH. Your response should have been "NO". For some reason, many folks don't seem to respect their "Brand" or want to continue to grow it, which is their history and legacy. Other cultures don't do that.
