EAST GREENSBORO – The North Carolina A&T Department of Athletics will retire the baseball jersey number of Al Holland, Sr., as announced by Director of Athletics Earl M. Hilton III on Thursday. The jersey retirement ceremony will take place Saturday, February 8 at the annual 1st Pitch Banquet hosted by N.C. A&T baseball team at Deese Ballroom inside the new student center on campus at 6 p.m. Holland, who was inducted into the College Baseball Hall of Fame in 2015, will become only the second student-athlete in N.C. A&T history to have his number officially retired. Holland will join former NBA player, coach and executive Al Attles, who was recently inducted into Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame, as the only two Aggies to have the prestigious honor bestowed upon him. Attles had his No. 22 jersey retired by Aggie Athletics in 2015 for the sport of men's basketball. Full Article: ncataggies.com/news/2020/1/16/baseball-aggies-to-retire-hollands-no-17.aspx

Al was a bad man when at A&T....think his brother played FB also? He and all of his brothers played football. I had the great distinction of playing with them all. Glen- running back, Al- fullback, Winston- defensive end and Coy- tight end. I also believed the jersey of Elvin Bethea (our only NFL Hall of Famer) is also retired. ( At least I retired it)

It is a damn shame that Elvin Bethea's jersey is not retired at A&T. He is the Best football player to ever play at A&T.
Only player from T in the NFL HOF. He is also a great person.
Shame, Shame, Shame

Never heard of a ceremony for his jersey being retired. I guess the field house is the proper place to hang it, but how many people go to the field house? Not that many and that may be the reason people don't know his jersey is retired.

Trust me I use to trained with him in the summer a few times in highschool and when I was at A&T when he was in Greensboro . He lived on the same street as my homeboy Eddie just off of Lee St not that far from Dudley Highschool . That jersey in the field house was a gift to coach Hornsby Howell .

I believe you. Never heard of an official ceremony. Elvin and I were friends at T. It is a damn shame he has not been recognized.
Mel Phillip's who played for the 49ers for about 11 years as a starter jersey should be retired also.
