I know some of us would like the MEAC to get off the #16 line in the NCAA Tourney. But this would be a great year to win the First Four game in Dayton... and play in Greensboro!

I always thought it was a major advantage from a visibility standpoint to play in the First Four.

As each college season has gone along, #1 seeds aren't as good/intimidating as they were 20-30 years ago. Already this year, it's been a carousel ride at the top as to who is #1.....which usually suggests there really isn't one. I don't see any great upper echelon teams this year. This bodes well for any conference whose representative gets a 15-16 seed.

I always thought it was a major advantage from a visibility standpoint to play in the First Four. That's a good argument. My personal take.... it's better fiscally to win the First Four game and get at least two March Madness units like we did in 2013. That's kind of why the NCAA put the games there in the first place. The only reason you wouldn't want that would be a year where you have a high-octane 12-14 squad that gets the right struggling upper seed to pull the upset. That's what happened with Norfolk against #2 seed Missouri in 2012. NCCU got a #14 seed in 2014, but they got a bad draw with #3 seed Iowa St. And then NCCU couldn't win the First Four games in 2017-19, so they didn't maximize their March Madness units. We're 7-11 now (3-0 in MEAC play). I can now visualize A&T Men's Hoops going 15-1 in MEAC play, winning the MEAC championship, winning the First Four game and playing in Greensboro with a 23-12 record against Duke. This would be a straight "Destiny From Above" type story. I hope we're all rooting for it.

Are we even sure Duke is gonna even get a 1 seed? Even with the loss at Clemson last night... they will. They'll get freshman Wendell Moore back next month to solidify their rotation and likely burn through the ACC Tournament. Louisville and FSU are good, but not as good as a full-strength Duke on a neutral court. And UNC... nevermind.

I don't know dgso.....there's a lot more losing that can occur between now and March. Nothing is etched in stone when it comes to seeds.

i've been a very strong "proponent" of the play in games from day 1! a lot of folk felt "shamed" by being selected to play in the play in games, but not me. see to me, i don't trip on the notion that an hbcu will advance beyond the 1st round. it rarely happens (only 4 times in history) and to advance beyond the 2nd round "never" happens.
so i've come to terms with "history". give me the play in games for virtually "exclusive" march madness national tv coverage while the "big boys" wait at home for first round play. that means, all of america's eyes will be on us in that play in game and to me, that's my motivation for wanting to be in that game. plus, play in games are very "winnable", unlike 1st and 2nd round games.
only thing i don't like about the play in game, is "LOSING" the doggone game! thank gawd we won the only play in game we've been in. but for all you muggs who think moton is the next coming of john wooden, he's "NEVER" won any of his play in games...

Yep @ Moton. Part of the reason he's still at NCCU is because he's 0-4 in March Madness and 0-3 in the First Four. Ed Joyner also won his First Four game at Hampton in 2015. But our current style of play is the type that puts a lot of pressure on squads in postseason.... especially if you're making shots. I want to see how we come out of Baltimore this week. But I love our chances right now in March.

The Greensboro factor is a constant.....all I'm saying is that Duke ain't necessarily gonna be a #1 seed. If they can lose to Clemson on the road, there are a lot of more ominous road trips in the ACC where they could catch another L. I agree with you though; I'd love to see a Duke/A&T first round match-up in the coliseum.

They are 9-7 and on a 3 game winning streak that includes wins over NC State, Carolina and Duke.

I like our chances if we stay healthy and injury-free...wow, I haven't said that about our men's team in a minute.
