EAST GREENSBORO – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) released its preseason order of prediction and all-conference teams for men’s basketball on Thursday.
Sports Information Directors and head coaches from the MEAC predicted the N.C. A&T Aggies to finish third in the conference a year after they finished second. The Aggies only had one player on any of the three preseason teams released on Thursday in junior Kameron Langley who was voted as a preseason second-team All-MEAC performer.
The Aggies received one first-place vote and 184 points to finish behind preseason favorite N.C. Central and Bethune-Cookman. The Eagles, the defending three-time MEAC champions, received eight first-place votes and 203 points and the Wildcats also picked up eight first-place votes and 198 points.
Norfolk State was predicted to finish fourth with two first-place votes and S.C. State was picked fifth with two first-place votes to round out the top-5. Bethune-Cookman’s Cletrell Pope was named preseason player of the year.
“I think we have a good chance to be good this year,” said N.C. A&T coach Jay Joyner who is entering his fifth season. “But a chance is what it is at this point. We do have a solid team this year, but I think everyone in this league has the same shot. When the smoke clears, if we play the way we’re capable of playing, we’ll be on top.”
