A&T football has abundance of talent and holes to fill By Jeff Mills jeff.mills@greensboro.com
GREENSBORO — It’s been a week now. One week of grass stains, sore muscles and sweat in the hot summer sun as N.C. A&T prepares for another football season. And one week into his second season as a head coach, Sam Washington likes what he sees. What’s not to like? His Aggies have won back-to-back MEAC championships and back-to-back black college national championships after Celebration Bowl victories over the SWAC’s best teams. But none of that means much under the summer sun. Like every team in the nation, A&T is starting over. “I’ve seen some signs of improvement,” Washington says, his head covered by a floppy bucket hat, his eyes hidden behind wraparound sunglasses. “There’s some talent out here, but we still have quite a bit of work to do. “I don’t know if there’s a particular area that needs the most work. The way I see it, every position must get better. That’s the truth. There’s no one area that needs more help than any other. Not at this point, at least. Maybe that will change next week, when we start working on specifics. Right now all the work is on basic fundamentals.” A&T starts fundamentally sound. i think this year will be our "defining moment". anytime a team only brings back 4 starters on offense and 4 starters on defense, but yet still wins the conference crown? that's when i'll say that indeed we have a "plug and play" program. maybe not on ndsu's level (which will prove itself next season), but certainly at the hbcu level...

The fact we have a limited amount of starters is very misleading because we return a lot of players with game day playing time. Martin is a perfect example of that because he was not a starter but how many players who started in the MEAC returning had the numbers he had last year not starting. Name me a returning starting Quarterback in the MEAC that could have led his team to victory like Carter did at ECU and he was not a starter. Go back and watch the games from last year and you see a lot of nonstarting players on the field playing major minutes or starting from week to week We lost a lot of great players and they will be missed but we return alot of players that it's there time to shine and new players to prove who they are AGGIE PRIDE

I feel you OSA but you have to remember that disyears starters were last year's back up . And as they provided themselves ; this year's backups have to do the same for me it's all about the play in the Trenches on both sides of the ball . You CONTROL the Trenches you should basically CONTROL and dictate the game .
