Only because y'all were having a discussion on what we should be called.LOL What's sadder is all the comments to that post of people saying the kid "has a point." It's a problem and people referring to AYANTEE as "in-cat" is stupid.

Only because y'all were having a discussion on what we should be called.LOL That is when you explain the proper pronunciation to them ..i.e AYANTEE , A&T or NCA&T . Like I said if you didn't correct a mispronunciation you will be stuck with it .

I’ll just say this (as someone said in an earlier post), GHOE was not a thing in my day. It was just “Homecoming”, the BGMM used to be just the ‘Marching Aggies’.
For this age of social media, “In-Cat” is fine with me.

As a matter of fact, there was some pushback on "GHOE" because of the "HOE" part and some looking at it as a negative connotation related to Wakanda/AggieLand.
I, definitely, don't remember our band being called the Blue & Gold Marching Machine (BGMM) when I was there in the mid 80's (Fun Fact - My girlfriend was the baton twirler) and I can't pinpoint when it started.
I'm not 100% on board with saying NCAT but I'm good with calling the Student Center "The Stu" and referring to a Day Party as a Darty!

Hey nothing stays the same, especially when you are dealing with young, gifted and Black college kids! I'm okay with those changes. But the University needs to be more focused on creating itsown "brand." The University should promote the name that best communicate its image. UNC Charlotte doesn't want to be viewed as "the little brother " of UNC Chapel Hill. So they have promoted two or three different names in recent years. They are now promoting the new name "Charlotte Fourty Niners!"
Let the kids use NCAT on social media but we need to use "A&T Aggies!" Ever ad, bill board, correspondence and athletic announcement should use that same "A&T Aggies!"

The institutional brand is AYANTEE , A&T or NCA&T nationally and Regionally with the occasional Aggie Pride or just Aggies . Institutional Brand Name INTEGRITY is something that should never be compromised and always corrected. Aggie Pride.

Institutional Brand Name INTEGRITY is something that should never be compromised and always corrected. Aggie Pride. It's not BS. The answer really lies in the school's branding standards. Although our guide is good, it is not as extensive when compared to some other schools. For example, our guide does not address all of the ways the school can be referred to and what is appropriate and what is not and under what circumstances. Our branding says that when we write the abbreviation we should put periods in between, N.C.A&T. or write out every word. AYANTEE is nowhere in the guide that I could see. It does not really address both formal and informal written communication. Also our branding does not address casual usage and references as a school like Michigan State does. Ironically, their motto is "Spartans Will", kind of like "Aggies Do". They must have used the same consultant, but their guides has similar elements but is much more extensive. Compare. www.ncat.edu/about/leadership/chancellor/university-relations/brand-standards-and-guidance/index.phpbrand.msu.edu/BOTTOMLINE: We could address these issues with additions to the brand guide addressing casual communications. The folks to speak to is University Relations.

It’s really not as serious as some of us are making it. Young people live on the internet and on social media.
NOBODY wants to say, and in some cases you can’t use North Carolina A&T or NC A&T on social media.
saying “nCAT” is no different than saying “FAMu”.
Everybody knows that’s not the schools name. The website is ncat.edu…and on social media #NCAT. It’s generational and us old heads are gonna have to let it go.
I wasn’t too happy about the whole GHOE thing initially…in my day it was just homecoming, we had a student union, and day parties…but it’s not my day anymore.

I'm willing to drop this, but let's be very clear about something. First of all, we've already established why the website says www.ncat.edu. Ampersands don't translate into code and thus we can't have http://www.nca&t.edu. Secondly, EVERY TIME, I see www.ncat.edu I still read that out loud or in my head as "North Carolina A&T. edu." The problem (and this goes back to our failure to control our brand) is that at some point kids who were NEVER familiar with our brand or our name started to casually refer to us as "in-cat" and it took off from there. I told this story once before on this website, but my second year in grad school, I was working as an academic advisor at Ohio State and I had a A&T pennant hanging in my office. This was 1999. A kid walked in and said "oh my sister's friend goest to "in-cat-sue." That's how he pronounced it. He saw NCA&T SU and pronounced it "in-cat-sue." I laughed my butt off and told him that that's not how the school is referred to and I corrected him. He had no clue. Again....that was 1999. The internet was just taking off and social sites like Myspace and Facebook had yet to be created. But it just goes to show how folks who aren't from North Carolina or who are wholly unfamiliar with our most important tradition (our name) can bastardize it and rebrand us whatever they want in a heartbeat. It's really interesting to see who thinks our school's name and what we are called doesn't matter and the fact that those who think it is important are branded as "old heads." LOL. I'll proudly step in the "old head" line and tell anyone who mispronounces my school's name to GET IT RIGHT. Every. Time.
