For the second time in the game’s three-year history, North Carolina A&T is in the Celebration Bowl. And there is nowhere else the Aggies would rather be. If there was any doubt as to why that is, a set of tweets from the A&T athletic department’s official Twitter handle on Wednesday evening should have laid them to rest. STATS FCS, a company that covers FCS sports, announced their coach of the year award on Wednesday. The winner of the award, named after legendary Grambling coach Eddie Robinson, was Austin Peay’s Will Healy. A&T coach Rod Broadway finished fifth in the voting despite leading his team to a perfect regular season and a berth in the Celebration Bowl. A few hours later, A&T issued a tweet pointing out that Healy’s team didn’t even make the playoffs, while Broadway led a team with lower resources to an unblemished record. It also acknowledged that his counterpart, Grambling’s Broderick Fobbs, got even less recognition. That tweet was followed by another one stating that it will “never earn their respect” no matter what it accomplishes, and doubling-down on what it has been proclaiming all season: Celebration Bowl is the goal. Since the MEAC relinquished its automatic bid to the FCS playoffs to send its champion to the Celebration Bowl, there has been a debate as to whether or not that was the right move. The debate ended for many people a while back, but for some it continues to this day. A&T has been transparent in saying that getting to the Celebration Bowl was its priority, and given its recent history, that says a lot. Winners of the inaugural game in 2015, A&T didn’t make the game last year, but did earn a playoff berth on the strength of its 9-2 record. It went on to take a blowout loss to Richmond the first round, and by the time December rolled around its season was over. Broadway didn’t blink an eye when asked if he’d rather be leading his team to the FCS playoffs of the Celebration Bowl. “Now if you take a poll from our guys that played in both (Celebration Bowl and playoffs), I bet you a 100 percent would select to go back to the Celebration Bowl,” Broadway told reporters after the game. “Now as a competitor, I think we could get in that thing and make a little bit of noise. But that’s not our path.” And the players echoed their coach’s sentiment with their words and actions. When asked the same question by reporters, they couldn’t hide their excitement. Especially offensive tackle Brandon Parker, who was named to the AP All-America Team earlier this week.” “It’s nice you get down there Wednesday, you may have practice Thursday but other than that you go to go to museums,” Parker said. “You have little programs, banquets here and there, they feed you good, so it’s a good time for everybody.” hbcugameday.com/2017/12/14/ncat-uses-fcs-snub-to-show-why-its-all-in-on-celebration-bowl/

How don't we get respect?
Austin Peay has sucked FOR YEARS. What Healy did there was a miracle. They haven't had a winning season since 2007. Since then they're record up until this year was 14-87. Healy went 0-11 last year and 8-4 this year. That's kind of deserving of the award over anybody in my opinion. Taking a 9-3 team to an 11-0 record the following year with a bunch of returning starters, while admirable, isn't quite as spectacular.
Our endowment, as low as it is, is over TWICE Peay's endowment. We spend much more on coaching salaries than they do and they barely outspend us in operating expenses. How we're suddenly "lower resources" is beyond me.
I'm kind of embarrassed our athletic dept. would put out such uninformed tweets. If there's no respect it's because somebody in our own athletic department didn't respect themselves enough to hold off on the tweeter fingers before spouting foolishness.

He didn't come in 2nd to Healy he came in 5th. Are 2, 3 and 4 more worthy as well? It's a shame that the Eddie Robinson and Walter Payton awards will never be won by a coach or player from an HBCU.

I thought it was in very poor taste for us to tweet something out like this.

I'm surprised they did it, but I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.
If Healy gets so much recognition for that criteria, where was Mike Haywood in the equation?

We don't need this kind of distraction heading into the CB.

Let's look logically at this instead of freaking out.
This year's top five were:
1. Will Healy, Austin Peay: In just his second season at the helm, Healy spearheaded one of the most remarkable turnarounds in college football history. Coming into the 2017 season with just one win in the last four years, Healy guided the Governors to an 8-4 mark, including an 8-1 record against Football Championship Subdivision competition. Austin Peay tallied seven OVC victories – the most conference wins in program history. 2. Mike Houston, James Madison: Took defending national champion, beat ECU like a drum, beat FIVE ranked teams and is about to appear in the national semifinals. 3. Brian Bohannon, Kennesaw State: Took 8-3 third place Big South team to 12-2 and national quarterfinal appearance. 4. Curt Cignetti, Elon: Took a 2-9 team to 8-4 and a playoff appearance. 5. Rod Broadway, North Carolina A&T: Victim of racist lack of respect according to a few. Took 9-3 team with a ton of returning starters (the tweets conveniently ignored that part) and went 11-0 against a bunch of teams that had losing records.
I'm pretty sure an hbcu coach will win the Robinson award when he deserves it. Like Henry Frazier did when he won it in 2009. Likewise with the Payton and Walter Dean and Steve McNair. But let's pretend they didn't win these awards to bolster our argument.
Mike Haywood went 2-9 this year. I have no idea why he came up.
The tweet and the attitude behind it were childish and far beneath what I believe Aggie Pride should exemplify. Aggie Pride and sour grapes built on incorrect assumptions do not belong together.

Gota pretty much agree with you on the above; I will say I dont even see why Bohannon (Kennesaw ST) is even on the list nothing overly significant.... and he should not have finished higher than Cignetti or Broadway. I dont feel as an Aggie disrespected by this ranking; maybe I would if Coach Broadway did not make list / Top 5.
I dont want put words in Blue Haze mouth but I suspect he meant Mike London (Howard)
It will be interesting when the Payton award is annouced.

London definitely got shafted. Probably should've been higher than Broadway. From 2-9 to 7-4 and a win over UNLV.
Bohannon's program made it to the national semis in year three of the program, and they beat the number 2 team in the nation at their place to get there. That's significant.

I've already started my pre Celebration partying and have been drinking. I'm doubling down on my statement. Fugg STATS and the playoffs. If Broadway and Cohen can't get recognized who can? President can tweet, so can we. STATS is Fake News!!

Hey thanks for the link but could you not put the entire story in the post? An excerpt or two is fine but there's no need to click when the whole story is in there. Thanks! Most news organizations prefer you only post a snippet with a link rather than the whole story. It's been done that way on most message boards for years.
I flat refuse to model my way of thinking after the current occupant of the white house.
It's interesting that some can take an honor as an insult. But hey, different opinions are what makes the world go round.

Yeah, good point on the reposting. It is a copyright infringement to repost these news service stories in their entirety. Headlines (including byline) and one or possibly two paragraphs then the link at the end is sufficient. We want to keep us compliant as not to get those nasty letters from the internet police.
Thanks guys.

It is probably not copywright infringement, unless you repost as if you are the author or you get financial gain for posting the article
