A&T unbeaten and has chance to stay that way By Jeff Mills jeff.mills@greensboro.com
GREENSBORO — Homecoming has come and gone, and another hurdle has been cleared. And now N.C. A&T is past the halfway point of the football season and remains undefeated. The Aggies (6-0, 3-0 MEAC) moved up one spot in the national rankings, to No. 11 in the FCS Coaches Poll and No. 15 in the STATS Top 25. They’re one of five remaining unbeaten FCS teams and lead the nation in victories. Outside the program, people wonder aloud: Can they run the table and finish perfect? Inside the program, well, no one speaks in those terms. “The goal is always the same,” Coach Rod Broadway said, “The game at hand.” A&T plays at Florida A&M (2-4, 1-2) at 3 p.m. Saturday in Tallahassee, Fla. “From my standpoint, I’m just trying to get them ready and focused for this week,” Broadway said. “All we’ve got to do is win one game. You don’t worry about anything else. You’re just trying to win one ballgame. That’s our mindset. That’s our goal: Win one. … Then we’ll move on from there.” For the rest of the story: www.greensboro.com/sports/college/a-t-unbeaten-and-has-chance-to-stay-that-way/article_164e2c5b-b4d7-575b-98d0-111254b3e9b3.html

FAMU Week Homecoming week brings intensity for FAMU So far, Florida A&M head coach Alex Wood has rewarded fans who’ve come to see the Rattlers for homecoming. Wood, now in his third season at the helm, won his first two homecoming games as coach of the Rattlers. The 2015 homecoming win was expected – the MEAC has far more formidable opponents than Delaware State – but the 2016 victory was an upset. Last season, the Rattlers dropped Hampton in front of a season-high crowd of 26,044, beating a team that went on to finish tied for third in the conference. Once again, Wood’s Rattlers are underdogs in their own homecoming. FCS No. 15 North Carolina A&T is this year’s opponent, and the Rattlers haven’t beaten the Aggies since 2011. Although they dominated the overall series, the rattlers think about us a lot. I read somewhere that game against us is responsible for that mantra they have. When I think about things I hate losing to anyone, but it is pure joy when we beat NCCU, Howard, and FAMU.

I'm still nervous about this game...(hell, I'm nervous about every game on the road!) Not because the snakes are any good but that we're due for a let down. I agree with you guys...should be "business as usual" for us but I just feel they may hang around in the game and get lucky.
Hope this is the one game where we get up early and keep adding points all through the second half. Show them to never schedule us again for Homecoming!

The decision by FAMU to schedule A&T for homecoming was driven strictly by economics. They needed a big draw name to help put butts in the stands to sell out homecoming. They aren't making any noise down in Tallahassee and haven't had a winning record inside the conference since 2010.

To A1's point, their AD is doing a very good job of resolving their deficit.

I can see that... but I have another angle. It's plausible that the FAMU administration got the following bright idea: With Tarik leaving and Lamar not looking so hot (1 TD, 2 INT) in our 2016 Homecoming game against them and their upset win over Hampton in their HC game.... that they should return the favor and with their projected improvement be able to beat us for HC just like Hampton. FAMU did improve, but with inconsistency. What they didn't calculate was our improvement and growth in all phases post-Tarik. It's here now!

Regardless of what they published, FAMU did not sell out their homecoming game last season. In fact, they haven’t had a completely sold-out home game since 2008. And, unfortunately for them, they have to schedule their homecomings around FSU’s home dates and not too close to their Florida Classic weekend in Orlando. I’m definitely not dismissing your theory, though. There was one other date available to them, but they said that this date was the best-workable date for them.

I stand corrected.... figured things couldn't really be as bad as they seemed down there. Thanks to you and A1 for clarifying.

No it wasn't...we only have one October home game this year and A&T just happens to be that game. We aren't going to have Homecoming two weeks before the Florida Classic. FAMU has led the conference in attendance for a while now and just had 18,000+ in the stadium for a Thursday night game. We may not be winning a ton of games, but RATTLER NATION will always support...and we could schedule anybody for homeocming and draw a huge crowd. The event is the draw, not the opponent.
