The game to really look at for Raynard will be the UNC game...if that stage isn't too big for him then he'll do fine in conference. But, if he looks like a deer in headlights then I will be concerned. The Elon game will be Raynard's biggest test. How he responds to playing them after going against UNC will tell us many thing about our chances in winning the title.

Our situation going into the season is common for us...we have some players coming back that have the potential to be game changers and then something happens. Injuries, academic problems, transfers and just off the field dumb stuff. And we (the fans) are left holding our breaths and hoping that those issues don't bite us in the rear later in the season.
But every team will have those issues. The good teams figure out how to make adjustments and keep winning. I hope Coach Broadway can find enough talent left on the bench to get us to the MEAC Championship this year. Or at least, spank NCCU in November.

I say UNC because I don't think there will be any other game where the stage is bigger. Now, if we win the conference the stage could be just as big. But, playing in front of 50k against a very good opponent, will great to us....this will tell us alot. I'm not expecting a win by no means but, I'd like to see that he has a command of the offense in a pressure situation. And playing in front of 50k is pressure enough.

ohsixrain, I honestly don't think we've got the depth this year to give UNC a decent game. Maybe if everyone on offense was healthy, maybe...but with a redshirt freshman QB, questions about our offense line and starting receivers out, I just don't see us playing these guys tough. Now I'm sure UNC's coach's game plan is to show his team's utter superiority early and often and then rest his horses for the next game. And I don't care if there are 50,000 or 5,000 folks in the stand, this will be a tough hill to climb for any FCS football program. I expect them to be angry after their opening loss to University of South Carolina on national TV and will want to show their home crowd that they are better this year. Let's keep this game in perspective...it's a money game. Nothing more and nothing else. Our goal should be...don't get hurt, get the check in our hands and get back on the bus to Greensboro. I'll feel bad if they beat us by 60 or 70 points but if we don't lose a key player and their check clears the bank, I'll deal with my embarrassment in the next game.
Elon is a better gauge of our talent for me. Not that they are a powerhouse but they are a PWI that has the money and resources and plays in the FCS. This is show me what type of season we will have in the MEAC. This will not be an easy game for us. If they had any offense last year, they might have beat us but Cohen and our defense kept us in that game.

While we are talking light years in the difference of competition between Shaw and UNC the best thing for us is to have a totally dominate game against Shaw. I am a firm believer that confidence not only helps your head but it allows you to execute flawlessly. UNC beating us because they are bigger more player resources is ok. If we lack confidence come in and have multiple unforced fumbles and interceptions; then you have a game that gets out of hand.
I do firmly believe if the line can give Cohen a tiny seem he will break a few plays wide open.

I get your point but, I don't think who has the most talent determines whether Raynard has a command of the offense. Will we get beat by more than 3 or 4 scores. ..probably. But given all those circumstances if he isn't afraid and plays with confidence then I have no doubt he'll play with confidence with any other opponent on the schedule...that's all I'm saying. If he isn't going through his progressions because he's looking at the pass rush then, that will be problematic and could continue throughout the season.

No one out of conference game will determine how A&T will perform once we start MEAC conference games. Let us not forget that Football is a team sport and injuries do happen. any injury to a key component of the offense will affect the overall effectiveness of its play even against the so-called weaker opponent. So all games have to be judged on its own merit or level of play. How will the QB react if we lose a key lineman, running back or receiver because the lose of any of these key position players will affect the quarterbacks performance and limit his options. So I will prefer to gauge the quarterback and offensive play game by game.
