Ed Hardin: Broadway cautious about forecasts of A&T’s success
By Ed Hardin ed.hardin@greensboro.com
GREENSBORO — Though still standing on the edge of a slippery slope, Rod Broadway feels like he’s finally found his footing. Now all he has to do is convince a football team and a nation of Aggies to take a deep breath. Thursday afternoon, as storm clouds hovered in the distance, Broadway stood on the edge of a practice field and watched another season begin to form. It started with a shrill whistle. Where it will end is anyone’s guess. A lot of people believe this season will end with N.C. A&T holding the MEAC title again, this time without help from its friends. I know I'm trippin and I'll say it before anyone else does. You cant say that looking at 2 throws on a news clip, you a-hole! But based on 2 throws apiece. #7 looks better than #2, LOL

It's time to let the competition play out.

It's time to let the competition play out. Quick's nemesis(sp) continues to be overthrowing his receivers from looking at the two throws. There was a sequence in the Central game last year where the offense went three and out on three incompletions all overthrows in the 4th quarter. He was obviously "gimpy" against Central but he has to fix that. The offense needs to be able to hit a pass or two over the middle each game without fearing an interception.

Use that TE that's should be there all day.

He was obviously "gimpy" against Central but he has to fix that. The offense needs to be able to hit a pass or two over the middle each game without fearing an interception. Quick's obstacle to overcome is his combination of hand size, arm strength and mechanics. What I saw in the clips was a QB who requires extra setup to throw an intermediate route. That's a sign of not having confidence in his grip/arm strength to take one step and rip the throw where he wants it to go after he sees his target. Quick potentially CAN do this.... but his mechanics would have to be near perfect given his measurables. Raynard has larger hands and uses more leverage coming out of his lower body by virtue of his size... so he's got more arm strength to take one step and uncork the intermediate/deep throws. Even though he's younger, his mechanics may be more refined than Quick as well. While we'd like to see our QBs have good mechanics 100% of the time... Raynard has more margin for error in his throws over Quick because of the measurables/mechanics. Quick's advantage.... his foot speed and game experience. Under the right circumstances... the intangibles can offset the measurable advantages. Who get the nod? Whoever plays the best... I wish them both well.

man, i don't see how folks can draw "conclusions" based on only "2 clips" of video, not even a full video of just one practice. much less a full week's worth of practices. wow, drawing conclusions without seeing the "before and after"...

I agree OSA . This is what I see with HBCU QB's they have problems going through the motions/progressions and knowing when to throw the deep ball and when to find the open man. going deep its all good but picking a team apart is even better it opens up more options. if you look at any quarterback basically coming out of college the first thing NFL coaches work on is there mechanics there are a few exceptions, but most have this problem.if you look at Tim Couch the quarterback from Nebraska or Tebow from Florida had terrible mechanics but they knew how to pick a defense apart to set up the long ball. that is what counts the most being able to read a defense ! all I look for is this a quarterback that can get the ball to the open man and keep a drive moving with game management that is the key.
