What part aren't you understanding??? Nobody is disagreeing that the offense didn't do it's job. Cody Jones' RECOGNITION IS NOT THE PLACE TO STATE IT.
Im done. It's just your personality...

Cody Jones' RECOGNITION IS NOT THE PLACE TO STATE IT. ....are you certain about that? If our offense was more productive (ie. scoring TDs) , do you think Cody Jones would have been the special teams POW? Yo Cody, you're cool with me.....this banter has nothing to do about you. You keep on kicking your FGs. You will prove valuable as this season moves on - I guarantee it

I'm in full agreement with bluehaze on this one. You are correct nss, but this wasn't the thread to state it. I'm hoping you're mature enough to accept that.
Congrats to Cody. The ability to step in and be a top punter due to injury in addition to making kicks in Dover, that says something good for this team!

That punting style is very effective, will bounce miles down the field and goes very well with our speed. It creates ball handling issues for the return team, and a desperate return man at some point will eventually touch it giving us a chance to take it away. Yeah, I'm beginning to become a real fan of those rugby style kicks, especially on turf.

Hey folks, You all are free to agree and disagree with anyone you choose.........my word ain't the gospel. Cody Jones was great in Dover and is very deserving of special teams POW. Now if he gets this award again because of the same scenario......there's a problem.

Why?
What if he averaged 50+ yards on 12 punts?
What if never advanced to ball to even get to the red zone?
Didn't we get shut out the last time we were there?
Who has a problem with 12 points and good field position playing an away game against a team you haven't beaten in several years with a true freshman qb playing in that swirling wind? I mean, who else does?
Nick Saban says every drive should end with a kick. A punt, a field goal, or an extra point. He understands that it's not about style points, it's about winning the game, however you can win it. I get him.
Basically, Cody's performance should get the inaugural "Nick Saban says every drive should end this way spirit award of the week." He kicked the punts, the field goals, and the extra pernts!
Brings a new meaning to the term "putting your foot in it."
Jokes and off-topicness aside, I'm hard pressed to find a better performance by an Aggie kicker in my memory. We've had longer kicks, but somebody handling the kicking and punting and excelling at both? And at Del State?!?

If Cody goes 4 for 4 on FG, averages 53 yards on a couple of punts and we win 47-14 against FAMU... Cody probably wins again.... except we would have scored 5 TDs instead of the 3 we put up on Delaware St.... and maybe 3-4 would be on offense...
There are plenty of places to talk about the offensive concerns. IMO, this thread really just needed to congratulate Cody on doing his job well when called upon.

We've had longer kicks, but somebody handling the kicking and punting and excelling at both? And at Del State?!? If a punter is punting 12 times in one game.......what does that tell you about the offense Dooms??? The answer: The offense isn't moving the ball worth a damn. 50, 60, 70 yard punts per attempt isn't the main issue in your example. It's the 12 punts that raises the yellow/red flag..... Didn't we get shut out the last time in Dover - yes we did. As I stated before, I'm happy with the outcome, but I don't recall an Aggie being happy with our overall performance on Saturday. Being happy you won and being happy with the team performance are 2 different things. Who has a problem with 12 points worth of fg's.........The answer: YOUR COACH <<<<“Making field goals are good I guess. But I’m hoping we can start scoring some more touchdowns,” said Broadway.>>>>> That doesn't sound like a coach ectastic with the offensive results from Saturday, does it? If we continue keep going only 3 out of 14 on third down conversions (21%).......Cody Jones may get more POW awards down the line, for his kicking of either FGs and/or punts.......AND THAT'S A PROBLEM.
Cody did his job on Saturday (kudos x 10). He will prove valuable as this season unfolds....but we can't sweep under the rug the fact that he got this award because our offensive production was paltry (yet again).
I'm hoping Klugh, the offensive staff and Broadway get things corrected. It didn't hurt us in Dover, but there will be a time where getting 3's (instead of 7's) on the scoreboard will come back to bite us. Cody did his job; others need to do theirs.

I love y'all dudes. I really do. We've been having these same arguments all the way back to the Rivals.com board. We are passionate about black college FCS football. By definition we are all a little bit "special" in our own way.
Superstar it comes down to location, location location. This thread should have been about unreserved and unqualified kudos for our man Cody. Your observations are on point (IMO), but not welcomed on this particular thread.

NSS, I think you misunderstood me or didn't get what I was saying regarding the 12 punts. My point was he only punted four times. That means the offense wasn't completely dead in the water.
Considering we're a)not some offensive juggernaut in the first place b) playing with a 5'6" 172 pound running back no matter how dynamic he is c) have a blazer playing wideout that can't catch balls particularly well d) playing a true freshman at qb and, e) young across the board...
I'm not as hard on things.
I can see the bad in the fact that we didn't score touchdowns every time the offense stepped on the field, but I also know there was another team lined up across from the offense that had a lil something to do with that.
I'm pleased we were able to get into field goal range in the first place. And to top it off, we made all of them. We could have scored every time on offense and still found things to complain about, but hell, we won. And Cody's performance was a big part of that. I know I'm losing my mind trying to steer this thread back to congratulating him, but his performance was one for the ages.

Hey did anybody noticed that we have a field goal kicker that actually hits field goals? In case you guys are new to Aggie football or slept through the past three or four seasons, you may not know that we get a decent field goal kicker once in a blue moon. I can remember games that when you saw our field goal kicker run on the field it was the same as a punt. You ( and everybody in the stands ) knew the kick wasn't going to be good but we had to at least try! So let's enjoy it while we can.
I just hope Cody keeps hitting them...it's a lot better than the alternatives.

I hear you Dooms....I was just going by the example you stated. I'm going to leave this discussion alone. I really am happy for Cody Jones. You need a strong kicking game to be successful on any level of football. We will need again him down the line.....

Something else that I noticed about Cody is that a lot of his kick offs are to the back of the end zone, or they're very high helping coverage. I think that we out run the coverage in the CCU game, and gave them a lane and free sailing, when we should have had them inside the 20.
