They'll be very inexperienced and they won't have the pistol concepts fully installed by Labor Day. They also won't have the proper depth and stamina needed to score on our defense. My only concern is with our QB's and our passing game. Will our starter have the proper timing down and trust with his WR's to complete timely passes and keep drives alive?

A&M's has a small D line and DB's we should be able to run on them and limaté the passing. For a Swac team thay are small on both sides of the ball. The O line should be able to control their D linemen and LB's. If we can not run on A&M its going to be along season in the MEAC.

Most all coaches will tell you that teams that use spread offenses like "The Pistol", usually lack a lot of skill people in the backfield and cannot run the football because they lack the size and muscle to power down on people up front. Their best bet rests on trying to isolate and create space for receivers and slot backs in the short passing game so they stay out of third and long.
We will need to contain and slow the quick underneath crosses and slants and the simple "waggle" pick patterns to the backs. Do that and the rest will take of itself for us defensively.

Football talk...I'm loving it. The best news for us is AA&M has a new coach. Hopefully he will not have enough time to put in his complete offense and defensive program when we play them. I hope our QB (whoever that is) shows us some passing skills but I'm sure we will play more of a run offense in this first game. I just want to see our QB complete some simple passes just to prove that we have a passing game this year.

My expectation is they will attempt to run it fast, a la BCU. We should have a counter for that, but given their coach's familiarity with our staff, they should also have a counter...
Should be one hell of a chess match.

if quick has developed over the summer to become a legitimate threat passing the football, our offense should be "lethal". it'll be the fastest offense in the skill positions that i've seen in aggieland, probably ever. even if foster beats quick out for the starting position, we'd still have a very fast offense because foster runs a 4.5 forty in his own right.
to me, the highlight of this year's preseason camp is the competition at the qb position to become the starter...

Our interior DL should be able to get their hands up and knock down some short passing and the defense should be able to contain ball carriers and prevent big gains for the most part. But, our depth will be needed due to the heat and possible pace A&M will attempt to use in their pistol offense.
