I'm not saying let the inmates run the prison, but I think that it's wise to get a coach that fits into what the athletes are searching for and are compatable with. High school recruits partly choose their programs based on the relationships that they can develop with the coaching staffs. It wouldnt make since to bring in someone who isnt compatible with your schools tradition, situation and goals. I dont think theres anything wrong with asking select team leader about which attributes rank highly and most important when dealing with the team.

What the players are searching for and are compatible with? For the last 2 and a half years our players have been compatible with losing and quitting.
Every player should want the exact same thing in a coach: someone who is qualified, a good leader and who will help make them better both on and off the playing field.
Who cares what else the players want. The coach is the one who is supposed to teach the players about tradition, team goals, etc.
I can see it now:
Player: "I think we should hire candidate A because he is gonna install the run and shoot, plus he kinda looks like Grady from Sanford and Son. Grady always made me laugh when I was a kid."

lol... but theres always something that kids look for, something that differntiates one coach from another. I'm sure every coach says the same exact thing about tradition, team goals etc during the interview process. You've gotta get a coach that current players and recruits want to committ to and sell out for. I'm convinced that some of the 22 year olds walking around campus can make better decesions than some of the folks we've had in power the last couple yrs.

Born
The tar-heels, wolfpacks and u of michigan all had at least one player rep on the search committee, their vote might not carry much weight, but they had a voice to be heard!
