We’ve often stated on this site that if Small went 3-8, 3-8 and 10-3 instead of the reverse, he’d still be coaching here. While last year we just got our a$$ kicked every week, this year we have had our a$$ kicked a few times and just been damn unlucky a lot. What if Fobbs is lucky and good next year and has a “Small” time result, i.e. all the balls bounce his way. What if we mess around and win 10 under him? Don’t laugh, it’s ENTIRELY possible. I think six wins is probable just by sneezing and farting. Would your opinion change (that is, if your opinion is he should be shown the exit)?

DOOMS, If we had won one game this year then my opinion might change, but under the current circumstances (0-22) he has nothing left in the tank. I agree he could get lucky and go 4-8 next year, by then we should have the $165,000 to buy his azz out, along with his NAIA staff.

I'm just praying he wins one game. If he loses his first two games he should be shown the door. Hell, why wait? Do it now!!!

Yes my opinion would change, because the configuration of the team, the coaching, the resources or something else positive would have changed. However, it's unlikely without signficant change there will be a winning season type improvement. Plus the history of success is just not there.
Don't forget during the Small era the offense was pretty much the same all three years, but that defense that first year was off the charts and made the ball bounce the right way. I don't see that type of defense next year, but decent and some improvement with the offense. To win 10 games next year the offense would have to be off the charts.

I'm just remembering the insane excitement that grew each week of Small’s first year. We all saw questionable coaching decisions and an inability to adjust the game plan. But we were all on Coach Small’s jock by week six. We made every excuse in the book for the first 3-8 season. That’s what 10-3 bought him. I’m just wondering if it works in reverse. Right now, I say it wouldn’t for me, but who knows. Again, I’m saying if the team goes and wins 10 or more games.
Honestly, if we have a health Ferguson and Chancellor sharing carries and a majority senior line in their third year of play, we’ll run the ball very, very well. If Garth comes back and tag teams with Lowrance, both receivers are 6’4” plus blockers and easy targets. When you can run the ball you can pass when you feel like it. That’s why I’m of the belief an idiot wins six just by sneezing and farting. Defense… We’ll see, but there’s no reason the offense doesn’t double it’s output. If we’re running the ball well the defense gets a rest break.
The more I think about it we should be in the playoffs next year. Most of the conference is losing a lot. We are not. Shoot, the hypo just changed a little:
Next year if we go to the playoffs, will your opinion change?

Yes, I feel my opinion of the dude will change. The reason I say that is because he's had a lot of OTJ training. The excuse he's using now is that he's rebuilding, but actually he's learning while on the job. And I think the OTJ will have manifested by then. I will have no other choice but to change my opinion, if that happens!

So yall are saying that Fobbs will actually earn a Coach of the Year award next year, unlike that BS online poll we were trying to fix?
DOOMS, me thinks you're getting senile in your old age....

In the first time in the nine+ years I've read your posts, you might be right Jeff. I don't know about Cookman and I'm not sure what Steat is bringing back but you might be right.

If we get an offensive coordinator, and we win early and often mean 7 wins minimum, then my opinion may change. Reason being is I do believe Fobbs can bring in some recruits, I do believe he can "manage the team. I believe he can do all the intangibles, except coach. If he had a strong OC and DC he would be fine. But with a team loaded with Juniors and Seniors he shouldn't just win he should be waxing folks.

if all of this happens and say we do go 8-3, or in my wildest dreams win the conference, in retrospect or hindsight, whatever you prefer, was the firing of Dee Todd premature?

I can't see my opinion changing of him based on one year. If he were to win the MEAC next year and stay competitive within the conference in the year after that, then my opinion will change. Under the right circumstances, they could win next year but it will take real coaching to sustain it for any time after that.

If Fobbs were to go 8-3 he should only be allowed to finish his contract. I agree he has been getting OJT; and getting 165k per year you should not need OJT. I don't see my opinion changing; I got used to having a defense that could hit hard. Fobbs doesn't seem to have any killer in him; I don't think he is tough enough to be an Aggie coach.
