The entire secondary must be addressed, everyone is gone. If I remember right, a number of our secondary backups played extensively in 2013.... Most starters will be sophs and juniors. ......look for tony McRae to emerge as a star this year! We do need some more quality backups in this class!

Looks like we got a commit from his teammate Daishon Davis also. The class is heavy on linebackers thus far. Prep notebook: South Point linebackers commit to Aggies By Phillip Gardner Published: Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at 21:08 PM. South Point senior linebackers Daishon Davis and Deion Jones aren’t done playing football on the same team. Davis and Jones last week committed to North Carolina A&T to continue their playing careers. Both were first-team All-Gazette linebackers this past season after helping South Point post an undefeated regular season and reach the 3A state quarterfinals. The 6-foot, 218-pound Davis was voted Big South Conference defensive player of the year as a junior and followed it up with a solid senior season, recording 208 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and five passes broken up. Davis was also voted to the Associated Press all-state team as a junior and senior. It always begins and ends with defense and we lost five inside backers. We are good with the outside and corners but we had to recruit depth in the middle to stop the run and get bigger and more physical in the middle.
We appear to be doing just that with our early commits and picking up a All-State and Shrine pick in the process in Davis.
They are a fine looking pair of inside linebacker prospects. Add in the 2-star kid Grey as well from Atlanta and the 2014 class is beginning to fall into place nicely.

OK... so who are the pass-rushers in this class, since that was one of the critical areas that lost us games last year?

DE Isiaih Smith (6-2,265) from Mt. Airy, Joshon Perry (6-3,255, DT) or huge DT Desi Bigsby (6-5,295) from Atlanta are a a handful of names that will be making visits to campus trhis week and next week. Having 40 plus schollys suddenly available give you a lot of options especially with the NCCU just now finishing picking a staff, the ACC basically done, App being not quite so big and bad, and Maynor completely out of the loop locally.
Off the current squad, don't forget Broadway wil have a full month of spring practice to work with his current defensive line and redshirts Kenny Melton (6-4,230,DE), Damion Hicks (6-4,275,DE), Da'shon James (6-2,270) will be ready to add into the mix.
Remember the only defensive lineman we lost was Tyree Hearn and true freshmen Mark Prioleau (6-5,250) and Daniel Pinnix (6-2,245) ended the year as the starters at DE. We have Neal (280),Desse (315), Ross (255), Morris (275) and Ragland (260) all back at the tackles. These kids were very young a year ago. They were mostly freshmen and a couple of sophomores.
If Broadway knows anything its how to build a defensive line. Defense won't be our problem. We have to establish a consistent offensive identity.
A huge impact player will be DE Angelo Keyes (6-2,256) who sat out a year ago as freshman with broken foot in preseason and received a medical redhsirt.

OK... I wasn't terribly concerned about the DTs... it was the DEs and OLBs
I've just seen how a strong speed-rusher like Andrew Carter from SCSU can alter games just as much as a offensive talent like Tarik Cohen. If we're going to do anything in the MEAC (or the FCS playoffs), we have to be able to get after the QB in the 2nd half of games. I'm just hoping that we have that guy on scholarship, or are close to signing him.
I will trust the coaching staff on this one, as always.

I wouldn't be too overly concerned about the outside backers and strong safties. There is a pretty good corp of youngsters who playd a lot last year even though D'vonte Grant and Travis Crosby were dominant every week, their play as freshmen went unnoticed for the most part by fans. In our defense, we just didn't blitz that much out of our base 4-2 last year but every year is different according to your personnel.
Rising sophs like Lorenz Suttles, Marcus Albert, Kia Richardson, Justin Smith, Zerius Lockahart and versatile rising juniors Landis Shoffner and Jermaine Clark will be center stage come March and April. I like our chances although we may not be as physical because of the youth, we should be much faster in our pursuit to the ball and closing down outside. We'll know a lot more come spring practice.

I think the NCAA limits the number of players you can sign in a year. So I would not expect to see 40 players in a recruiting class
