Volunteer Program Assistant
The Greensboro Science Center is seeking a qualified candidate to provide support for the Volunteer Coordinator. Throughout the course of the year, the Volunteer Office recruits, trains, and manages nearly 500 volunteers and coordinates the internship program. The Volunteer Program Assistant will help oversee this team of hard-working, dedicated volunteers.
This part-time, year-round position is for a maximum of 25 hours per week, with half days on Friday and Monday and full days on Saturday and Sunday. Occasional weekday evening work will be required when volunteer recruitment events, trainings, or special events are scheduled.
The ideal candidate should have a bachelor’s degree or be working towards a bachelor’s degree. Candidates should be able to communicate with, supervise, and empower volunteers to be effective in their roles. Previous experience working with volunteers and with animals is preferred. Candidates should be able to work independently to complete tasks while also functioning as a leader of a team of volunteers comprised of many ages and personalities. The ideal candidate should be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. The position requires a detail oriented, people person.
The Volunteer Program Assistant will work alongside the Volunteer Coordinator to maintain good working relationships with volunteers, assist with volunteer recruitment and retention efforts, and process paperwork and maintain records. The Volunteer Program Assistant will manage the online schedule database for volunteers and respond to volunteer inquiries. They will also set-up and clean-up for volunteer trainings, meetings, and special events. They will be the sole person in charge of volunteers on weekends including checking in morning and afternoon volunteers.
