Man I used to love that place when they first opened! Short Orders: Saltmarsh Willie’s makes a comebackTuesday, April 30, 2013 Updated 11:58PM By Carl Wilson carl.wilson@news-record.com Since closing Saltmarsh Willie’s Crab House more than a decade ago, Yul Bennerman has kept the dream of the restaurant alive in his head — and in a thin folder he carries in his briefcase. The folder holds his business plan and a copy of a 1990 Greensboro Business Digest magazine. On the cover is Bennerman’s father, Hartford “Ben” Bennerman, seated in the dining room of his restaurant, Salt Marsh Willie’s Crab House and Seafood, wearing a three-piece suit and smiling. The headline reads, “Willie’s Pot,” a nod to the popular Lowcountry boil entree the restaurant offered. Yul Bennerman ran the restaurant with his dad for years before taking over the restaurant when Ben retired to Florida to live out the rest of his days on — what else — a fishing boat. Ben Bennerman died three years ago. Last week, Yul Bennerman opened Saltmarsh Willie’s Seafood Express (271-5004) in the Piedmont Building, 114 N. Elm St. in downtown Greensboro. “I’m excited to do this,” Bennerman says. “I’ve been waiting to do this a long time.” Read more: www.news-record.com/home/1152409-63/short-orders-saltmarsh-willies-makes
